Great place to visit, did so twice. Photographer's paradise. Visited late afternoon, yes there were people, it is an active temple - but never crowded. Guess could be so at peak tourist-coaches hours. Sat evening a night market / food stalls were being set up in the grounds just as the sun was setting. Practically all Buddhist temples visited (and those we just drove past) would be worth a visit if they existed in isolation, due to the elaborate sculptural art that they are so rich in, plus they can look a little samey, but "Wat Chalong" stands out, so if you only visit one on Phuket island, make sure this is it.

It's hard to imagine just how big it is until you actually arrive and wow we were blown away by it's presence and the views from here are simply breathtaking. It's free entry which is always a plus plenty of food and drink options and a great chance to score some souvenirs definitely needs to be on everyone's itinary if your visiting Phuket.

Phiphitthaphan Rup Muean Chao-athikan is a small temple in which the body of the monk is located. According to legend, this monk invented a headband with special symbols that protects the Wat Chalong area from war. Many local and visiting Thais come here to make a wish.
