This little restaurant is a find! It is one block off Parque Vidal, a paladar peso restaurant with very inexpensive but very good food (for Cuba). Prices are in moneda national rather than CUCs, (Cuban Convertables, the money tourists mostly use) but you can pay in CUCs and they will convert fairly. We ate there three times. I paid 100 pesos in moneda national ($4 U.S.) for a delicious langosta (lobster) dish, which they will prepare grilled, or with garlic sauce or a criolla sauce. My husband had a breaded pork chop once and garlic shrimp the other times, for about $2.50. You get a choice of rice: I advise you choose the "Moros Y Christianes" , which is black beans and rice, literally translated it means Moores and Christians, hence the black beans and white rice. The home made desert flan is good too. Best of all, to counteract the mostly bland Cuban food everywhere else, if you ask for salsa picante they will bring out a home made green hot sauce. It is in a plastic bottle, but the sauce inside is made there, not the stuff that was originally in the bottle. One waitress, Leyanis, speaks a little English, and she is eager to practice. The menu is of course only in Spanish, but Leyanis will help explain the dishes or use your google translate on your phone if you don't speak enough Spanish. Mi Spanish is limited, but we got by fine.

Not sure people find this place without a guide but it is worth it if you can! Beautiful courtyard with charming seating areas scattered around. Very good food and wine selection. The farm to table concept is alive and well in Cuba and this place is an excellent example of how a local has made it into a successful business.

The locals recommended this restaurant. They feature Cuban Paella, which is popular at the restaurant. The hostesses were attentive and very gracious. Dinner for two was roughly $24 CUC, but you can definitely eat for about $14 CUC for two persons, as the menus is extensive. Although I give El Sol a three star rating, it is my opinion that most of the food we had in Santa Clara was a three. This restaurant has rooftop seating, which invites a nice evening breeze.

Really regretted visiting this ârestaurantâ. I think just donât arrive before 7:30pm as they are not ready by then. I arrived at 6:15pm and it took them 45 min to provide some bread and salad. Then now itâs 7:08pm and thereâs no sign of any food on all tables! Or just donât arrive when you are starving. Then at 7:11pm, my so-called their signature shredded beef arrived. Omg. Itâs only the shredded beef that costs 2-3CUC in local restaurants or in Saborearte. No difference. The restaurant that tops the trip advisor list in Santa Clara can do far better than this. As I mentioned in other trip advisor reviews. Nearly all restaurants in cuba do nearly the same dish, the difference is the price. Those for tourists, especially in restaurants like this, just charge four times the price as it targets tourists. If you donât like eating with local Cuban people, this is the place to go.
