A high-level 4.2 mile walk on the South West Coast Path around the cliffs above the mouth of the River Dart, where medieval monks kept a light burning in the chapel to let sailors know where the rocks were. Small birds call from the bushes and seals haul out on the rocks around the headland. Allow time for exploring the history around Dartmouth Castle, Warfleet Cove and Gallants Bower.
This is a gorgeous coastal walk with stunning coastal scenery from the coast and then to the river Dart estuary.

A 4.6 mile walk on the South West Coast Path travelling high around the mouth of the Dart Estuary, giving fine views over the 600 year old castles. Passing through woodland dedicated to the memory of a local hero and returning via the Daymark tower, the route visits the extensive remains of the WW2 Brownstone Battery, built to prevent enemy beach landings to the east.
Get your walking boots on and stride out from Kingswear along the south west coast path towards Brixham. Some tarmac roads to start but follow the path and you soon go up and down through some slightly more challenging terrain, through wooded areas, beside fields and along rocky grassy paths overlooking the sea, with spectacular views. We walked along as far as Coleton Fishacre (National Trust property) for a break and then walked back the road way (a lot less demanding!) Very good half day's walk. You may even be lucky and see seals or dolphins (although we didn't, sadly). Still lovely, all the same! Probably about 5-6 miles round trip but feels more because of all the up and downs!

Since 1999 a group of enthusiasts have dedicated themselves to the preservation and restoration of the Stover Canal in South Devon, England. Built in the 18th Century, the canal was used for nearly 150 years to transport clay and other minerals from the Bovey Basin, and granite from quarries on Dartmoor, to the docks at Teignmouth.
I spent just over two hours to walk from Jetty Marsh up to Ventiford Basin and back. The work put in by the Stover Canal Trust to restore features along the way is impressive, particularly Graving Dock Lock and Ventiford Basin. The southern end of the canal at Jetty Marsh was not obvious to find, the lock area itself is somewhat overgrown, and this end of the canal still has water. Walking north along this part of the canal path was peaceful, I only met a couple of other walkers. At Teignbridge clay cellars there is a cafe (MT Tums) where I enjoyed a cup of tea, North from Teignbridge Lock the path is sometimes shared with the Stover Trail so watch out for cyclists. The canal bed here is now dry and full of plants. Graving Dock Lock is fascinating, (and possibly unique among canal locks), a lot of work has gone into the restoration here. At Teigngrace Lock the keepers cottage is a private residence but views of the old lock can be enjoyed. At Ventiford Basin the most impressive feature is the uncovered remains of the granite tramway around the quay.

The Kingsbridge Tranquillity Trail is a circular walk that starts at the Information Centre where a free guide can be collected. It allows you to appreciate quiet places and nature even in the midst of a thriving town. The route includes a very scenic quayside walk, a hidden garden with old Lime Kiln, a secluded path alongside an ancient mill stream, attractive parks and a Community Garden.
