A few problems at breakfast, it seemed as though everything was rushed, one guest had to send his cooked selection back to the kitchen as it arrived just as he sat down to his fruit and cereal. The quality of the cooked breakfast was OK, they passed the poached egg test. On the first morning we were seated in the second area which unfortunately had a bit of a cafeteria feel to it compared with the main room.
We were in the main room on the second day and service didn't feel quite as rushed.
Service at dinner was better and more relaxed, the food itself whilst good doesn’t really merit the dreaded “fine dining” label that Macdonald advertise.
Smoked venison starter wasn’t as tender as I’d have hoped, the accompanying tarragon cream was nice but Parmesan cheese was a bit cloying. The scallops were a tad over but the black pudding was excellent.
My main of Lamb shank, creamed spinach puree with mash and rosemary jus, again, wasn’t tender enough, it didn’t fall from the bone as I’d hope and the portion of mash would have fed the whole table, it went beyond generous towards daunting. The confit duck and red cabbage arrived with a roast potato rather than the fondant as on the menu, again, enormous portions. We passed on dessert!
Good hearty pub grub fare, very generous portions, probably just what you'd want after a day hiking around the loch and glen.

Located in the idyllic Wilderness of Rannoch Moor with views onto Loch Laidon and along the West Highland Railway LIne, the Moor of Rannoch Restaurant & Rooms offers an escape from the demands of modern living. A chance to experience some of Scotland's most rugged landscape.
We came to Moor of Rannoch for my Mum's 60th and it didn't disappoint! Scott and Steph have created a warm, relaxing escape in the middle of a gorgeous landscape all whilst serving the most delicious food! What's not to love? Can't recommend this place enough, thanks again Scott and Steph for such a wonderful stay. We will be returning!

We visited this weekend for the first time. Really nice staff, lovely crafts, and we had great coffee, soup and afternoon cuppas between amazing scenic walks. Keep up the good work! My husband treated me to a lovely pair of Black Yak glove-mittens. Could have spent a pretty penny on all the gorgeous things...will be back.

Handy for topping up your larder if you need a few essentials but not for a major shop. The store used to stock considerably more but, without a fuel station in the village self catering holiday makers and villagers alike now drive to the nearest super store to refuel and buy there provisions. The closest super market combined with a fuel station now being in Aberfeldy.

The best local ingredients freshly prepared for traditional Scottish dishes, breakfasts and lighter bites, open seven days a week.
Just back from a couple of days at the Dunalastair, the hotel itself was really nice, good decor, lovely suite and a nice relaxed feeling to the place, and the staff can’t do enough for you.
However the food was disappointing, the menu wasn’t varied over 2 evenings with no specials as such, apart from a Valentine’s Day steak offering, 3 courses for £49 per person, overall expensive for what it was as was the standard menu.
On the 2 evenings we ate in the restaurant , our food was uninspiring and luke warm but we didn’t complain, however when my breakfast was cold on the 2nd morning I asked for it to be heated up which it duly was.
There were other options on the “room service” menu and I can’t help but think that perhaps the hotel could offer these to guests as well in the restaurant?
As I checked out a gentleman was making the same comments as I have about the food and in fact was offered £20 off his bill?????
If the hotel, can match its food to its appearance, staff and ambience, it would maybe somewhere I’d visit again, but there are other places we have visited unfortunately I’d return to much sooner
