Things to do in Chalons-en-Champagne
Turned up late after driving all the way from the UK For an over night stop. Found this bar/restaurant which appeared open (it was 245pm). We asked if they were still serving. After a ânonâ, they then said they could do us a salad or something simple. So we asked for an assiette of charcuterie and cheese. On the menu outside a sharing platter was 15.90 euros or a simple assiette of charcuterie was 8.90 euros. When the bill came we were charged 15.90 x 2. I was too tired to argue the bill but they completely exploited us. I speak French so it wasnât a miscommunication. Why would I have wanted 2 x sharing platters for 2 people!! I also wasnât convinced that the two glasses of Minuty were minuty! Perhaps clarify what you order.....but if you were 2 people you wouldnât order for four would you?!!!

Had a wonderful meal, we were tired, and the menu was easy to understand and the service and food were grey. The wine was as you would expect very good too.

We managed to get in here for dinner during a local festival where Chalons was extremely busy.To say that it was average was the best we could say, but at least we got in whilst it was absolutely full and extremely busy!!My wife had the Gratin Munster which she could just about eat but didn't finish, and I had the double burger, which was ok.The Pinot Noir wine wasn't too great and it was all pretty expensive for what it was!To be fair service wasn't too bad considering how busy it was, but we wouldn't go back!

We were staying at the nearby B&B hotel after a long drive, on a day where we had eaten very little. Being tired and hungry we wanted somewhere close to the hotel that was serving something filling and substantial and It passed on both counts. Au Bureau feels like an English/American style pub/steak house, selling Belgian beers. Its not fancy but it really hit the spot with steaks, burgers. grilled chicken with frites etc, and a tasty Oreo tiramisu (I know it sounds odd, but was good) to finish. Not typically French I know, but if you're hungry you could do a lot worse

We went here primarily for the coffee and it was pretty bad, cappuccino. Too hot. Very thin and bland. We've had about 1 average coffee on our trip to France, rest have been awful. However the crepes were very good and the staff very very very friendly. We even met the owners and they appear a very friendly and trendy couple.

Normally I don't review restaurant chains, but I found this restaurant to be very nice. They have a great selection of mussels and good beer on tap. There are other things to eat besides mussels, but I really liked the mussels and "frites." I had both lunch and dinner at this place; reservations might be needed on busy nights or on weekends for lunch. I recommend this restaurant.
