Well-priced, all-inclusive beach resorts are the norm around Puerto Plata. Take a cable car to the peak of Mount Isabel de Torres, enjoy a concert at an amphitheater facing the Atlantic Ocean, visit the 16th-century San Felipe Fortress. Explore the nearby falls of Damajagua, snorkel off the beautiful island of Cayo Arena or play a round of golf in spectacular surroundings. Then discover the neighboring towns of Cabarete, a kite-boarding hub, and Sosúa, a picturesque beach spot.

Puerto Plata's Malecon is beautiful and easily accessible. You can walk along the ocean line, sit for a while, and/or visit the stores and restaurants along the way. Loved the Neptune statue on one of the rocks.

Excursions are great for exploring, and there’s lot of choice, including exotic downtown Puerto Plata. This square is picturesque and includes the pleasant Cathedral.

Amber Cove was our favorite stop on our cruise! Resort style pool, large restaurant, few bars including one in the pool and one up very high for awesome views, water slides, zip line, hammocks, cabanas to rent, water sports. The shopping area had several nice stores like Del Sol, Taste of Dominican and Pirana Joe's. But it was just beautiful. Two waterfalls, water streamed walkway, trees, foliage, flowers the entire landscape was beautiful. The employees in both the water park and shopping district were all friendly and helpful. Our Carnival Conquest ship docked right there and we walked to it. While others were busy booking and getting to excursions, our group was already enjoying our day in the sun listening to great music! Plenty of chairs, good food. Bring money...it's not cheap to spend the day there if you want eat and drink. By far our best day of the cruise. FYI- while the ocean is right there for you to see and be close to, but there is no beach access from Amber Cove. We did not mind as we swam in the large pool and sun bathed all day! One warning, the water slides are very fun but there is a weight limit (250 I believe it was) and we did see someone get denied access to it. They will weigh you if in doubt.
