Top 6 Points of Interest & Landmarks in Green Mountains, Green Mountains

August 30, 2021 Enedina Augsburger

Vermont’s Green Mountains are the peaks that gave the 14th state its name. Still largely covered by the verdant forest, the area is a year-round destination, popular with both skiers and hikers. The Long Trail, a wilderness hiking trail, traverses the state, while drivers set a slower pace on Vermont’s scenic roads. Quaint towns, such as Stowe and Montgomery, acres of farmed valleys, apple orchards, covered bridges and specialty stores take visitors back in time, and charming inns await.

Sometimes it's the simple things that catch your attention after you have slowed down on your trip. The covered bridge and white church with the fall colors is a perfect example. Only a few miles west of Arlington, it a must see.

Silk Road Covered Bridge

Disclaimer: no there was not an actual tour it was my own self driving through each of the bridges in Bennington Vermont. What is nice about the three bridges besides the beautiful landscape and preserved structures themselves is that they are conveniently located within five minutes of each other. If you are someone that would like to see covered bridges but do not want to go on a “hunt” for them this trio in Bennington is perfect.

Robert Frost Stone House Museum

In December 2017, thanks to a generous gift from the Friends of Robert Frost, Bennington College acquired the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in nearby South Shaftsbury, VT. Frost's years in Shaftsbury marked his rise as one of America's great poets; there he won the first of his four Pulitzer Prizes and wrote his iconic poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Frost was involved in the formation of Bennington College in the thirties, suggesting the use of narrative evaluations. In addition to continuing as an historic house and museum, the College will integrate the Stone House Museum into educational programming and experiential learning opportunities for students in literature, museum work, historic preservation, and environmental studies.

Very interesting listening to facts about Mr. Frost...the staff that day was very quite nice and informative!
