World famous Rookery for FL bird watching. Great blue herons, white Ibis, Comorants all nest on an island protected from predators. Spring brings lots of babies and cameras abound. Bat houses are full of insect eating bats which come out after sunset . Great place to enjoy nature at its finest.

We have taken the family here numerous times. We enjoy seeing all of the wildlife, such as raccoons, deer, snakes, gators, birds, reptiles, and bugs. We have never had a dull trip to the preserve and even once biked the entire property all the way up to The Lower Myakka Lake. It's a GREAT place!

Thoroughly enjoyed our hike here. It’s an easy, mostly shaded hike with plenty of opportunities to hike along the river. Saw an alligator, turtles,a snake, and tons of little lizards. My favorite hike in this area so far. Much more scenic than the South trail.

Jelks Preserve

This is not for the faint of heart...there are several streams to cross on narrow boards and lots of mud when we were there. Evidence of wild pigs is everywhere. It is a wonderful Florida experience though and not heavily used...just what my sister and I were looking for. Kudos to Sarasota County for all their wonderful preservation work at this and other parks.
