Tamar Island Wetlands

The Tamar Island Wetlands is an unique urban wetlands reserve just 10 minutes' drive from the heart of Launceston. An interpretation centre offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the value of the wetlands environment and the wildlife that live there.

I stopped here thinking i could spend 30mins wandering around the wetlands and stayed over 2 hours. It such a beautiful little spot to stop. I did the walk out to Tamar island, an easy flat boardwalk all the way with a few bridges along the way for viewing the black swans, ducks, water hens and other birds. There are plenty of spots to stop along the way for a seat and a gorgeous picnic bbq area when you get out to Tamar Island. A lot of work has and continues to go into the wetlands - i would definately reccommend stopping if you have some spare time on the western side of the Tamar

The friendly staff and in particular the lady selling tickets and interacting with kids made it so memorable. Scenery stunning but photos of dog rock and special pens were kids highlight.

Zig Zag Reserve

Found muscles in my legs that haven’t had such a work out for many a year ???? but enjoyed exploring. Wasn’t too bad really- quite enjoyed. Walked from Cataract Gorge north, or was it East. Steps quite steep in places - not regulation height.

Short drive from Launceston, this is a smaller and intimate zoo, Great range of animals on display including lions, tigers, lamas etc. Feeding times were great with Emma. This zoo is far less commercial than others I have visited which was a great change. Highly recommend a visit when in the area and one of the best places to see a Tasmanian Devil.
