The capital of the state of Sikkim, Gangtok is an attractive tourist destination, reflecting a unique ambience which derives from its happy blend of tradition and modernity. Alongside the deeply felt presence of stupas and monasteries, Gangtok also bustles like any other thriving town. Some of the key places to visit include Rumtek Monastery, Do-Drul Chorten, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point and the local bazaar, Lal Bazaar.

A couple of friends of mine and I decided to go on a day long trek from Gangtok. The Tinjurey trek was the perfect fit. We contacted Lords Tours and Travels of Gangtok and had to pay up Rs. 2500/- per head for the trek, which included the commute to and from the Fhambong lo Wildlife sanctuary, permits, a guide and lunch. My friends, who didn't have much experience in trekking were slightly apprehensive, given that it was a trek up to an altitude of 8000+ feet. However, the sheer beauty and the feel of adventure got the adrenaline pumping. We were blessed to have a 23 year-old guy, Biraj as our guide who kept our spirits high throughout the 4-5km hike. Fortune favoured us as it snowed at the top of the hill on the day of our trek. We had a fabulous day with scintillating views on our way. I won't say much and would let the pictures do the talking . To sum it up, the Tinjurey trek from the Fhambong lo Wildlife Sanctuary is a definite must for anyone visiting Gangtok. If you like trekking, you will love this experience, and even if you don't, the scenic views will have you awestruck! :)
