I went up to Skeeskadee after the Coronavirus shut down a proposed trip to Yellowstone. I made 4 trips while staying in Green River for 2 days. In those 4 trips I probably ran across 4 other cars, so it felt like my own private refuge. There are only about 20 miles of gravel roads on either side of the river so it can easily be traversed in a day. I am into Raptors and this place has plenty of them. Bald Eagles and Hawks were everywhere. Along the north side of the gravel road allows for easier access to views close to the river, but on both sides I saw Moose, a total of 5 of which there are about 30 said to reside here. I saw a large River Otter, as well as Sandhill Cranes and Deer and plenty of Pronghorn Antelope on the 28 mile drive from Green River to Skeeskadee. I plan on visiting again in June after the Moose give birth and again in the fall when the males have large racks. For wildlife photography this place is well worth the 5 hour drive from Denver.

If you are pressed for time, I strongly encourage you to NOT try to drive the complete scenic byway AND drive it on a beautiful day when you can stop long enough to appreciate everything and take some photos before continuing on this journey. Take plenty of water, snacks, a good pair of hiking shoes, a great camera, and a map of the flaming gorge scenic byway before you venture out. We had a great time and as recommended by many, we also drove the Sheep Creek Geological Loop. Unfortunately, we only drove half of that loop before arriving at road closure, so we had to double back. Maybe this was due to the previous week weather, but It was still worth it and I highly recommend taking that loop.

Road to sight was a bit narley. But was worth the venture. Wind blowing only bummer. But that's wyoming for you.
