This 276-acre park is wrapped around an isolated cove on the south shore of Lake Travis. With 7 miles of wooded trails, Grelle Recreation Area is ideal for horseback riding and hiking. Picnic tables and grills are available at the park’s campsites.
Really liked our spot at #11. They call it the point because it looks out over everything. We don’t fish but it must be good here. People came at all hours to throw out a line. The hiking trails are worth the effort. May be challenging for some but trails are mostly dirt and not gravel, which I prefer. We saw fawns frolicking in the pasture across the water. It was so cute.

Krause Springs is a well-known camping & swimming site located in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas. It is located in Spicewood, Texas approximately 30 miles west of Austin. The 115 acre property is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites and has been privately owned by the Krause Family for over 50 years.Krause Springs has many natural sites to explore. There are 32 springs on the property, and several feed the manmade pool and the natural pool which flows into Lake Travis. It's a refreshing treat to swim in the Springs during the hot summers of Texas! If camping is in your plans, there is primitive tent camping as well as 24 RV sites with water and electricity available. Guests are also welcome to relax and to stroll through the Butterfly Gardens; take time to listen to the music of the wind chimes and the fountains during your visit!
We took a little water hole road trip from Houston and this was one of our stops. Great place to beat the heat. Get there early and you'll have no issue with parking and getting a good spot by the spring. The grounds are big and you can setup for a picnic on one of the many tables they have or down below at the spring. The rocks heading down are slippery so water shoes are a definite plus, especially if you're carrying coolers, canopies, chairs, etc. Besides the spring, there's also a spring fed pool up where the picnic tables are. I really liked this place, definitely going back.

Narrows Recreation Area has the only public boat ramp on the lake's upper south side. Narrows is closed at night except for the boat ramp. The park has an outdoor restroom, but no other amenities. Location note: The access road to the Narrows crosses Alligator Creek at a low-water crossing. During heavy rainstorms, the creek may be impassable. This location may not always be barricaded.
