Really inventive playspace with little houses, and all kinds of play equipment. Marvellous coffee van in the car park. Set in the most idyllic landscape.

Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden

The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden is Victoria's premier cool-climate garden. With breathtaking views over the Yarra Valley, the garden features important collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and more, in a setting of native and exotic trees. Seasonal changes ensure the garden is a year-round delight. Meander down to Serenity Point where the sculpted landscape opens to stunning views. A network of paths criss-cross the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden and highlight the ever-changing seasonal landscape. Bring a picnic basket and set up on one of the lawns within the gardens for a scenic day out. Ride the 'Garden Explorer' - a fee-for-service people mover which provides a 25-minute guided tour of the garden.

This visit I was able to see the Rhododendrons and azaleas at their best. The gardens and grounds are beautifully kept, loved the Proteas. Enjoyable just strolling around the large area. A reasonable walking ability is required due to downhill, uphill walking. Restaurant on site as is a wonderful gift shop, especially if looking for a gift for an overseas friend. Toilet on site.

Pirianda Garden

Designed to take advantage of the steep slopes, the terraced woodland garden of Pirianda contains a unique collection of plants, including many botanically important trees, unusual shrubs and perennials. With magnificent views and a backdrop of ever-changing colours, photographers and bird watchers are in for a treat, while the lawns are perfect for spreading out with a picnic feast. Meander through the tranquil garden at your leisure, making your way from the grassy areas, through the terraces, and down to peaceful fern gullies beneath towering blackwoods and mountain ash.

Compared to the other Dandenong Ranges gardens, this garden generally has far fewer people, ample parking, and is pretty quiet. It is spectacular in autumn (with some colourful trees not present in the other gardens), has a variety of flowers in late spring, and the rest of the year is just a pleasant and quiet place to wander, with interesting stone walls, terraced paths, and a fern gully. As with all Dandenong Ranges gardens, just be aware that it is steep, and can be a long way down to climb back up again.

Olinda Falls

This is a beautiful place and SO peaceful. There are excellent viewing platforms along the track to the falls so you can sit and soak in the energy wherever you feel comfortable - and the energy is AMAZING. This is one of my most beloved places to go when I need to be in nature. Absolutely wonderful. A must-visit.
