A jumping-off point for ferries to the Hebridean Islands, the port town of Oban offers a picturesque bayside setting. It's worth catching a later boat to take in the town's stately Victorian architecture, bounty of seafood restaurants, and good pubs.

Book this if you stay near Oban. Book this if you have to drive 3 hours. Book this if you even remotely like animals because you can tell Paul really loves what he does and is lucky enough to do it for a living. This was worth it just to be able to see these truly awe inspiring birds of prey in their natural habitat and that they were so gentle and beautiful was unexpected. Paul spent well over 90 min with us, totally on our own.. no other guests. He was patient, so informative and never once did this feel like a lecture about birds. It was more like he and they let us into their little family group for a few hours and we were so so lucky. I know this sounds over done.. it’s not. It was pouring rain at first and I hate rain and did not even care I was so blown away. So great. Do it.

Parsley is a Red Tabby Maine Coon with a fondness for wandering. He visits local landmarks, hotels, bars, churches, private homes and his favourite pub The Balmoral. He has an international following on Facebook and people travel to meet him at his One Cat Cafe in New Hope, Soroba Road from 2-3pm every Friday. He's placid, has impeccable manners and is an ambassador for Oban.
We met Misha (Parsley's "sister") at McCaig's Tower and were thoroughly smitten. She curled up on my lap and had a snooze! Two weeks in Scotland and one of my very favorite photographs is Misha laying in my lap. :-)

Arduaine is a wonderfully moist and mossy coastal garden, influenced beneficially by the North Atlantic Drift and enjoyed by enthusiasts from all over the world. Twenty acres of outstanding woodland plants include not only a major rhododendron species collection with a leaning towards the more tender, but also all the usual spring-flowering favourites such as camellia, pieris, azalea and magnolia. Other trees and shrubs take the flowering season on into the autumn along with an inspiring miscellany of bulbs, perennials, climbers, water plants and ferns, many rare and unusual, many down to earth and familiar, all interesting and beautiful in their diverse ways. A spectacular coastal and island panorama can be enjoyed from the easily accessible cliff top viewpoint. Visitors are welcome every day and will find something of interest throughout the year, come rain or shine.
Lovely garden in a great location to quietly wander for an hour or two. Good variety of species and interesting for a run of the mill gardener like myself.

We were lucky to arrive right at the time the falls were at their best during the falling tide. The water was incredibly turbulent and we stopped at the little viewpoint that turns right instead of going straight ahead or turning left into Oban. It was fascinating and the kayakers were having a ball in the churning rapids. But then we spotted seals riding the currents too and they seemed to be having a wonderful time, both riding down the falls and then returning up. Find out the time when the falls will be visible and it is really worthwhile seeing this natural phenomenon.

Great place to visit, especially first thing in the morning or in the evening; for sunrises and sunsets. Great views across the town and out to sea towards the islands. There is good parking nearby and public toilets, which seem to be open 24hrs.
