Promenade Park

Just got back after a day at Promanade Park with the grandchildren (age 5 and 18 months) Loads to do - playgrounds, a small zip wire, crazy golf, large sand area etc also a huge amount of refreshment places open. But the best part of the day by far was the petting zoo. Admission was very cheap. £14 for all of us and for that you not only got the animals to look at with very knowledgable staff but we also got to pet and hold a tarantula, boa, lizard and a skunk. The lad who did the sessions with those animals was amazing. We all loved it.

Tollesbury Wick Nature Reserve

At the entrance near the Marina, there is a little box with maps and info about the circular walk: it's 8 km, so we didn't have time to do the whole circuit. Wonderful evocative views over the Marshes, with lonely Bradwell power station in the distance. A welcome cup of coffee at the Yacht club afterwards.

Arrived and went to reception for pitch number. No information on things to do etc as reception is wait by door only . Went to clubhouse for lunch dogs only allowed outside. Food was very nice large portions lovely food good prices. Very helpful staff. Site is large Very busy. Ate at the tea rooms on site breakfast and that was again nice food but dogs only allowed outside. Clean shower block but gets dirty very quickly grass on floor toilets get dirty quickly a very large amount of people using just 3 toilets 3 showers in our area. Hot water push button showers 10 seconds. Ice cream machine not working or the coffee machine. Can get very noisy at night large groups people meeting up talking drinking playing games etc until quite late. Needs more facilities and a good tidy up weeds mess in a lot of places such a shame as a really nice site.

Northey Island

Reviewed By NaturePaths

I decided to write this after reading a review below. This is a beautiful, peaceful, soulful off the beaten track haven for nature and wildlife therefore has few facilities, few sign posts and isn't suitable for prams/buggies etc. You do have to walk there and back but if you like fresh air and exervise, no prob! I thank goodness there are places like this for our wildlife, they are refuges for wildlife primarily, so hence much of the island can be viewed only from a distance, and we are given the privilege of walking here and being allowed to view tbe wildlife. If you are a person who truely respects and loved nature you will fall in love with this island, if you want a day trip out with tea rooms, toilets, concrete paths you will find that in nearby Maldon which has quaintness and convenience but still besstiful views and history. So tread quietly, calmly and gently if you visit Northey.
