I love visiting this gallery! There are a mixture of style and my favourite ones are the windows and plants and Tavira landscapes painted by Fonseca. The owner is so friendly and have few paintings herself. A must place to visit!

The former convent of Santo António dos Capuchos appeared in 1612 when the friars of the Order of Santo António dos Capuchos settled in the same place where existed an hermitage dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Esperança. This church has the typical 17th century "chã" architecture with a simple rectangular plant, a single nave and a main chapel. During the second half of the 18th century the main façade was remodeled. On the inside is possible to admire a remarkable 18th century clay ensemble with the representation of Santo António`s life. It`s also possible to contemplate carved altarpieces and examples of painting and religious imagery from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Seeing Lisbon and Evora museums you’d never imagine that the Muslim had any effect upon the history of Portugal. Finally in Tavira there is a very respectful museu for Islamic impact in this region and it presents a very balanced picture of life with and after the Muslims “left”. So glad to see these interpretations realized for visitors and perhaps locals to reflect upon the reality and benefits of having the Islamic influence in Portugal and this region. Well done Tavira Municipality! Thank you.
