This quirky building in the heart of Hawkshead displays original watercolours and work by Beatrix Potter, from the National Trust collection. It's the only place you can step inside the famous tales and get up-close to the original illustrations.

Unexpectedly inexpensive tour conducted by a knowledgeable and delightful fellow who made the history of the school come alive. Established in 1585 and attended by William Wordsworth - a trove of treasures and stories contained within. Fascinating and ceratinly well worth a visit.

Hill Top was Beatrix Potter's most beloved place, packed full of her favourite things and left just as she wanted it for visitors to enjoy. You will see why she loved it so much and used it and the surrounding countryside as inspiration for many of her famous children's tales. Your visit helps the National Trust continue her work to look after the Lake District.

The Armitt is Ambleside's Museum featuring a permanent exhibition 'Beatrix Potter -Image and Reality', together with the Kurt Schwitter's gallery and much more. Described by 'The Times' as 'a gem' this is a must for all Beatrix Potter fans.
Was recommended by the National Trust guide at the Bridge House. It costs £4.50 for over 60s £5 for adults. There was a Beatrice Potter exhibition which was very interesting about life history and the people she worked with to keep the Lake District special and preserve Hill farming. Especially interesting was the display on her involvement in the Roman excavation near Ambleside. The Reference library was a revelation to us in pursuing our family history. The quality of the displays is high.

Quality paintings in a fantastic location. A warm and friendly welcome awaits you in Hawkshead.
We visited the gallery whilst staying near Hawkshead. The lady running the gallery was very polite, friendly and knowledgeable, she took time to show us around and talk about the different artists whose work is displayed and was happy to answer any questions. We ended up purchasing a painting of a Stag by Rob Hefferan and then a landscape by John Russell from the Coniston shop. We are very happy with our purchases and were very grateful to Maggie for her help during our visit.
