Stretching 126 miles south toward Cuba, the stunning Keys are a perfect escape. Highlights along the way include Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key and the irrepressible Key West. Get up close with an amazing array of fish while snorkeling, diving or fishing in the warm turquoise waters. Creeks, coral and costumed spectacles are other lures along the way. Highway 1 is a spectacular ribbon tying together the islands and atolls of this paradise between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic.

A 4,000 pound bronze statue of Christ installed at the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary.
My husband recertified his PADI with Sail Fish Scuba. And went with them to see Christ of the Deep. He was very happy to see the statue and all the marine life around it:)) Very exciting trip and a lot of species to see while diving. Thank You, Tim and SailFish Scuba:)!

A beautiful and compassionate memorial honoring those who died from the Aids virus. Located by the ocean and tastefully presented. It is a meaningful reminder.

Yes, it's just a small garden with statutes, but take the time to read the descriptions. Key West has a great history of great people and even greater scoundrels. Most of them are represented here and give you a nice glimpse into the people that made the area unique.

monument to the hundreds who died in the Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.
This keystone monument contains the ashes of WWI veterans who were working to build Henry Flagler’s overseas railroad. Because it was Labor Day weekend, the train sent from mainland Florida to rescue the workers was delayed. On September 2 1935 a tremendous hurricane wiped out Lower Matecumbe Key killing the veterans waiting to be rescued. Winds of 200 mph and a 18’ total surge crossed the Key.
