Visiting daughter and understand why this is her favorite spot for freshly made tacos and Mexican favorites. Everything tastes incredible, pictures do not do it justice. Guacamole and all it’s versions are so delicious! Very busy but service was friendly and could watch your food bring prepared behind protective glass!

A bit away from the touristy part of San Diego avenue, this upstairs restaurant felt like the type of place the locals go to. Excellent service (thanks Javier!), the restaurant has a menu of tequila drinks as well as traditional beers and alcoholic beverages. We started with an order of guacamole and chips; the restaurant also included three different salsas. The guacamole was outstanding. They have an extensive menu of specialties and traditional mexican dishes. El Agave also specializes in dishes with various mole sauces. My wife had the Mole Poblano Don Julio which included a terrific mole sauce with great spices and flavors served over chicken. I had the fish tacos which i can never resist. They were delicious and plentiful. Highly recommend this restaurant!

My wife and I were hanging out downtown doing shopping last Saturday and finally made it to a well known coffee shop in Barrio Logan to recharge with coffees. It was 1.30pm when we got there and they don't serve lunch food as we know. We were starving and felt like some good Mexican food but we didn't know this neck of the woods. I asked Lindsay the barista about a good Mexican place nearby and Las Cuatro Milpas was her answer.....the best around Lindsay said. We hit the road and were parked right outside this Mexican eatery by 2pm. There was a huge line of customers meandering down the sidewalk. I nearly had 2nd thoughts as I hate waiting in line for anything let alone food. But I figured this place must be great or real cheap ! So we're standing in the never ending line and I asked the dude in front of us about the food. Loves it he replied......been coming here since 1965. Holy Cow.......this joint is legendary apparently. The line wasn't moving real quick and was getting longer behind us by the minute. This must be peak hour I determined and yet the place shuts at 3pm. Eventually we made it inside the entrance and could witness first hand the kitchen activity right in front of us. It was a maze of movement ! We could see on the wall that the menu was not huge. My wife ordered Rice & Beans & Tamale + one dozen fresh Tortillas to go and I wanted a Burrito with Pork....the server asked if I wanted sour cream and I said yes. Within 30 seconds our complete order was placed on a tray right in front of us. Amazing speed of service and delivery ! We walked along to the end of the counter where the cashier lady was. The grand total was $15 cash .....$5 for the huge serve of Rice & Beans & Tamale, $5 for my big fat Burrito with Pork & $5 for one dozen of the biggest freshest hand made Tortillas you will ever see. We tipped 5 bucks and walked off to find a table in one of the huge dining rooms. It's a big place once you get inside. We sat down and started eating our lunch. I added some of the spicy red salsa which came with my Burrito and man did it have some kick. My Burrito tasted so good...I could taste the wonderful texture of the fresh made Tortilla and the Pork inside was good quality. My wife was soldiering through her Rice & Beans & Tamale dish and loved it but couldn't finish more that half. I went for a walk out the back at one stage and took a video of the workers making the fresh Tortillas. How cool ! We sat at our table chatting with a Colombian female lawyer who said she comes here because the food was similar to what her grandma used to serve in her home country. Wow we were impressed ! It was almost 3pm and customers were still lining up outside on the sidewalk. Our meals tasted great, the service was friendly & super efficient and the atmosphere a lot of fun. The authentic Mexican food here is great ...and real cheap !

Indoor or outdoor seating available. Friday evening was super busy but the staff was pleasant and accommodating. They have an extensive margarita menu. The food menu is also extensive. I tried the Mexican pizza and it was large enough to share and well seasoned. Complementary chips and salsa are served and the salsa is delicious.
