This was our first time at Mexico City, so we werenât sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised. We were greeted warmly and promptly seated. The service was very good, and the waiter made a special accommodation to my order of the Cali enchiladas, which were delicious. My wife ordered the taco salad and was also very pleased. The prices were very reasonable. We will be back.
Having moved from San Jose CA last year, we have been on the search for simple and real Mexican food. We found it. La Estrella is a very unassuming place in Greer. Matter of fact, the first time I came upon it, I was suspect of what could be inside. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you have entered a restaurant/cafe in Mexico. The food is simple....tacos, tamales, etc. There is what I would call a salsa bar with everything you need to put on top of your food and it is super fresh. There is an entire wall of refrigeration cases of sodas and other drinks. They sell Mexican breads and have an entire wall of what must looks to be yummy breads, cookies, treats. The place is bare bones on décor although the last time we were in we saw they added a TV with music videos on it. We also noticed the menu on the wall was updatedâ¦perhaps new owners or just a few upgrades. This is not a fancy place by any stretch, but the simple good food reminds me of what we used to get back home. My husband thinks the tamales are fabulous. The tacos come on a corn tortilla and whatever meat you picked, nothing more. We have had the quesadillas which are a good size and very good. We have never had the burritos but plan on trying those next time. You can't go wrong with this place.....who knew that Greer had real Mexican food?

This was a family visit with four adults. Quiet restaurant located in a very cute area - historic downtown Greer. Plenty of free street and public parking. The highlight of the meal was the amazing homeade guacamole made tableside. It was absolutely delicious. Food was very good and everyone was happy and satisfied with their meals. Total bill was $69 without the tip. Price was very reasonable. Great to get out and walk around the cute downtown area after eating and have coffee at one of the nearby coffeeshops. We will return.

If you go here regularly, you become part of the El Jal family. I have eaten here for years and I think the food is good. When I had a tostada at another restaurant that I really liked, they were happy to add sour cream and pico de gallo (sp?) to the tostados they serve to me. I like the atmosphere there.

My grandson had a birthday and this is where he chose to have his celebration dinner. Good margaritas, good variety of Tex-Mex food. A casual, moderately priced dining experience with friendly staff and lots of families enjoying dinner out. My grandson actually had leftovers to take home and that is most unusual as I always say it's as if he has two hollow legs to fill. My steak fajitas were piping hot and the meat was tender. My grandson chose a specialty meal that had steak, shrimp, chicken and a pork chop with a mole sauce. It also included a piece of cactus. He thought it tasted sweet; I thought it was sour, but definitely not my thing. The mole was very good; multiple layers of flavor and not just chocolate. I opted to stop at one fajita so that I could enjoy dessert. My very favorite treat in any Mexican restaurant is flan and theirs did not disappoint; my grandson chose churros and he said they were really good. There are other options such as fried ice cream and an apple chimichanga, etc. We will back.

Perfect spot near work to get a bite for lunch. Menu offers quite a few varieties of tacos. I am a little picky, so I just went with the gringo (hamburger meat). I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of beef they used on each taco. I tried the steak on my friends taco and it was quite good. I was a little disappointed with the salsa. There were 2 jars on the table. The first one was extremely mild and I did not dare tasting the second one as just a sniff was as much as I could handle. It would be nice to have one in between the 2 extremes. Wait staff was pleasant and food came out quickly. I will return.
