Far East Russia is a world apart from the country’s west – almost literally, lying thousands of miles and many time zones away from it. A huge area with rugged mountains and spectacular Pacific Ocean coastline, Far East Russia borders China and North Korea on its south and nearly touches the United States to the northeast. Cities like Vladivostok and Khabarovsk are here, but the glorious natural wonders (like the volcanoes and national parks of the Kamchatka Peninsula) are what draw many.

It is a lighthouse built on the small island at the southern tip of Sakhalin built by Japan in 1939 when Japan occupied Sakhalin. And you can observe many young gulls and eggs right in front of the gullies. The seagulls do not fear man, but they hover around. You can see the 360 degree sea on the lighthouse and the place where the Sakhalin Island begins.

I wanted to visit once again the Egersheld lighthouse. It was a sunny cold January day. It was possible to walk to the lighthouse. But the wind was so cold and strong. Locals were doing some races on ice on off-road vehicles.
