This restaurant serves authentic Cuban food in very small tapas portions. The flavors were uneven with delicious Maduros (oven-roasted plantains) and oven roasted fresh-farm vegetables to oily Albóndigas cubanas (lamb meatballs) and dry chicken in the Arroz con Pollo. Our party of six chose many dishes to share, which was fun. The flan is wonderful. However, the prices are exorbitant for what you get. The wait staff is professional and friendly. I enjoyed the experience but would not go backi.

The owner/ chef of this restaurant was the sous chef at the very prestigious, now closed, Four Square. Every thing is prepared from scratch and the wait may be long sometimes because he does most of the cooking, but it's worth it. He also hires hispanic staff which does slow down the process, but we appreciate that he is employing them. Last night the crab and shrimp quesadillas, the watermelon gazpacho, the fish tacos, and the flan- all wonderful. Don't think you can get as good a Mexican meal anywhere else- and it's always good.

1st- Matteo was awesome. He was super friendly and helped us to navigate the Latin dishes as well as suggesting where to get a good breakfast. 2d- this place is super clean, quiet, and delightfully eclectic inside. 3d- the Picadillo was phenomenal. IMy husband and I both ordered this Cuban dish and we loved it.

Ate at Mez yesterday evening â was expecting something great since I was a long time fan of 518 in Raleigh. Disappointed in virtually every way possible:1. Ordered fajitas â plate was cold â food was slightly warm. Chicken was warm, but obviously not freshly prepared â difficult to chew. The rice on my plate was equally cold â two of three tortillas were warm â not so the third and it literally fell apart in my hand.2. My wife ordered a chicken taco. The meet on the taco LOOKED like tuna fish from a can â it was ice cold and after tasting it, Iâm not sure I know exactly what it was. I am not an connoisseur of Mexican food, but generally a taco is served in a warm soft tortilla (except at Taco Bell). This was a flat cold piece of tortilla.3. We ordered a side of corn pudding, and it was a small square in a bowl â it was also ice cold. 4. Our server was professional in demeanor, but decidedly unenthusiastic about our presence â he only visited out table to deliver the food, to ask about the food and upon relaying our comments above, he took the taco away and, based on our request, removed it from the bill. There was not adjustment or accommodation made for anything else. When I flagged him down to get my check, he wanted to know if we wanted desert â donât think that was the right thing to ask â he did refill my water glass at that point as he was taking my credit card for payment.5. The menâs bathroom smelled sort of âoldâ if you know what I mean, but my wife advised me that the empty womenâs restroom seemed to have a strong sewer type odor.Your restaurant is very attractive, but my assumption is you are busy at lunch, but not at dinner. We walked in the door at 5:45 and the scarcity of cars in the parking area should probably have clued us in, but I really wanted to eat at the restaurant so went forward anyway much to eventual disappointment.

We were excited to try the fusion of American South and South Amercan flavors (think empanadas with homin and collards). We were very pleased with the potato empanada but disappointed in the eggplant one (among the three vegetarian choices). Service was quick but it took three tries to get hot sauce (this was blamed on an employee being new). My wife liked the gin blossom cocktail. The clientele was 95% under 35, while we are over 65. The restaurant was too noisy to eat inside but luckily they had two outside tables, where the road noise was less bothersome than the inside racket. Unfortunately we were accosted rwice by homeless people looking for a handout. Reasonably priced but go only if you don't mind noise. We won't be back.

Very different decor, dark inside and may scare small children, so eat outside if you have them with you.Service was quick and attentive enough. I heard other waiters tell groups of a special, but I was not told.Taco plates come with three SMALL cold flour taco's and one side. I chose the shrimp taco's and yucca as my side. I was charged extra for the yucca which was not good at all and was not told about the upcharge. Salsa was nice, chips average. An adult place that is good for large parties as the tables can be pulled together and it's very loud, so large parties can be as loud as they like....and they were. Not my kind of place....a lot of $ for a little food and the quality was just not there. I will not return.
