Got off to a bad start at this taqueria. Service was less than stellar. But the food is pretty good. Liked the super veggie burrito and veggie tacos. The beans are good, as is the salsa. Looks like a converted fast food restaurant, nothing fancy. They have a drive through.

Most authentic Mexican menu - This is where Mexican families go to eat. Large portions and very reasonable. Waitresses are Mexican and have been with El Charro for years. After a few visits they are good at remembering what you like. Outstanding and fast service.

Had the burrito made with carnitas/pork and was stuffed after eating it. Hot sauce was great compliment to the burrito and the cantaloupe juice was a great neutralizer to anything too hot. Decor isn't great and it's in an old McDonald's I think but the food is fantastic! Next time, I'll try some of the soup where the bones look like they've been simmering in the broth for hours!

Don Julio's

Don Julio's is a basic run of the mill and quite frankly borderline hole in the wall that serves up traditional Mexican and El Salvadorian dishes including their well known Pupusas which are homemade corn mesa tortillas filled with cheese and a meat or veggie filling. In other words, they are handmade rolled freshness filled with ooey gooey goodness. How do people find this place? It's in the older part of Rohnert Park in an outdated and nearly empty shopping center that has clearly seen it's best days many years ago. We came up to the area after a day of wine tasting in Sonoma County and I could not have been more surprised as really it's one of the only viable businesses in the area. The best way to describe the menu at Don Julio's is, believe it or not is traditional Mexican meets new wave California Fresh Mex, as they have items like Tropical Burritos with mango salsa, homemade chipotle cream, and a tropical grilled potato mix. But we were here for the traditional stuff like burritos, tostadas and chimichangas. All of which looked and sounded great from the menu, but I wasn't super hungry and I am always down for trying a good pupusa and they actually have nine choices to select from including vegetarian options with spinach and zucchini! But what we wanted today was their meat option and luckily our decision was made simple by them only having two choices, the pupusa revuelta made with pork, bean and cheese and the pupusa de pollo with chicken, bean and cheese. Both were fried to perfection and paired nicely with a side of fermented cabbage slaw, also known as curtido, and their red tomato salsa. That combined with a complimentary serving of fresh tortilla chips made for a complete meal that I couldn't turn down. We also decided to get a refreshing tropical inspired beverage to go with our meal, and at Don Julio's they serve what they call Agua Frescas, five flavors in total, and they are gracious enough to let you have a sample of each, served in a small plastic ramekin, to make sure you know which one is best for you. I like the Maranon which is Cashew Mango Fruit and the Mango con Pina (Mango and Pineapple) was a refreshing treat. But I'm a traditionalist, so I went with the Horchata which is rice milk mixed with real milk and cinnamon. It was a refreshing treat, heavy on the milk, next time I may consider another option and you can actually get a half and half mixture upon their recommendation. Don Julio's Rincon Latin Grill and Pupusas is a local family run institution that represents what makes small business America so great. Hard scrabble but upwardly mobile, they are getting the job done day by day, bit by bit. I can't wait to return on day soon to try their traditional menu of burritos and nachos, which along with their pupusas come at a very affordable price point. Is it the cleanest or safest place you could go while sipping in wine country? Perhaps not, but it provided an affordable meal when I wanted it the most and I could not be happier dining here the next time I need my fill of delicious hearty Latin food.

Mi Ranchito

Lots of parking. Easy on/off 101. Incredibly fast service. Lots of hispanics eating here. Good sign. Lots of seating, including a bunch outside. Chips were fine, good salsa, quite spicy. Reasonable prices. Full bar. Camarones a la Diabla is very good. Quite spicy as you'd expect, but a nice tomato sauce underneath it as I prefer, rather than just being spicy. A large number of sizable prawns. Will order again. Wife had three tacos and while they were all good, she preferred the Carne Asada which she said was very good. The Chile Verde wasn't that great. Shrimp was fine.
