ASK Italian in Saffron Walden is a place for great food and warm service. Think fresh bread made to tear and share. A glass of fine wine worth deserving of your time. Delicious main dishes prepared the traditional way. Everything we know and love about It

We were in Saffron Walden at lunch time for an appointment and so wanted a reliable lunch and this chain seemed a sensible choice. It is situated in a very pleasant building and on the imposing main road from Audley End. The service was pleasant enough despite English language issues. The food was mediocre but acceptable although lacking flavour mainly.The interior probably needs a refurb but what I found quite unacceptable was the build up of grime on the table. Pictures attached. On closer inspection of the grime, this seemed to be old food and grease on a roughly varnished surface. Ghastly and unappetising. Ordinarily I would have contacted the manager and not posted this but there is no email for the Saffron Walden restaurant.

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life! I visited on Friday evening, the staff utterly ignored us and when called over they were rude, snappy and aggressive in their manner. Nobody introduced themselves to us and nobody took responsibility for serving our table. The starters were forgotten about and then we were accused of lying about ever having ordered them in the first place, the waitress was short and snappy when she spoke to us and rolled her eyes several times when I asked for things such as the desert menu and eventually the bill. We were there for 2 and a half hours because the service was so slow. When I politely addressed it with the manager at the end he told me that it was our own fault that the staff were rude to us because we "put too much pressure on them by wanting to eat at the restaurant"! He denied any responsibility and refused to discuss it with me. I feel extremely sorry for the chef because the food was actually delicious and great quality but the front of house staff seriously let him down and I will never eat there again. I felt disrespected and not valued as a customer. I would strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant .Hi, weâre sorry for the service you received during your meal with us. We know we can do better and hope to see you soon so we can prove this. Extra training will be provided to our team to ensure an incident like this doesnât happen again. Love, Prezzo X

Visited The Angel & Harp whilst staying in the area. It is quite a large place with its own car park. We had booked and it was busy despite being fairly early in the evening (6pm).We dined here on a Tuesday when the burgers & items from their âClassics Menuâ are on 2 for 1. My partner had a burger & I had the Mushroom Carbonara from the Classics. Both dishes were absolutely delicious & top quality. We both had the Bakewell Tart for dessert, again fantastic & clearly homemade .Service was excellent throughout the evening & our bill including drinks & coffee came to less than £40! Thank you so much for your great review. along with the 2 for 1 on pub classics we do 2 for 1 pizzas on a Monday which is also great value for money. I will let all the staff who worked on the Tuesday know how well they have done and we hope to see you again soon.

Went for an early mid week Dinner, all dishes we ordered were delicious, staff friendly & helpful. This was our first visit to the Gate. Was plesantly surprised by the decor as I thought it was a lot nicer than the pictures on website. The food was excellent, and very generous portions. There was a varied choice. The service was efficient and staff pleasant. I am looking forward to returning.

My husband and I ate here this evening as a friend had recommended it and bought us a meal as birthday treat. We havenât been to finchingfield for a while but found it easily and parked without any problem. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating and recommended good choices for me as I have a fish allergy. We shared a starter and I had a chicken bacon and mushroom ravioli which was delicious. My husband had Franks seafood stew house speciality which he tells me was wonderful. Ice cream and coffee for pud followed. It was a lovely evening in a relaxed low key restaurant which we will definitely visit again. Very highly recommend this place. Give it a go :-) Fab review thank you stephie..
