Things to do in Mayaguez
I have been waiting for the perfect time to visit this food truck since I saw it opened. My husband and I decided one night to finally enjoy a meal there. The table we sat at smelled bad, the type of smell you know they are using dirty cloths to clean off the tables. We even mentioned it to the waitress and she didnât even blink an eye. We should have just gotten up to leave, but decided to give it a chance. The waitress offered us the special juices of the day, she said they had ginger lemonade, and I believe mango juice. I ordered the lemonade and my husband the other juice, which we didnât get until after we got our food. The waitress did not ask if we wanted it with our food or before. When we got the juices, I was unpleasantly surprised with what I can only describe as lemon water. It had no flavor, no sweetness, no tartness, and definitely no ginger. We ordered their artichoke salad, which came with 1 artichoke. I wish I had taken photos, but was trying to enjoy the night with my husband. For our main dishes we ordered fettuccini with smoked salmon, and fussli with a meat sauce (I donât remember the exact name of the dish). It took 45 minutes to an hour to make our dishes, which seemed weird to me. If they were using fresh pasta like they claim it shouldnât have taken very long at all. The food was fine, my sauce was watery, but the meat was very tender. For dessert we ordered tiramisu and cannoliâs. Iâm from Boston, and I absolutely love cannoliâs and was really looking forward to having one. But letâs talk about the tiramisu first. The flavor was exactly as it should have been, but the bottom had black spots on it, and I was nervous it had been sitting too long, but I wasnât sure. The cannoli was a disaster. Itâs embarrassing to call what they served us a cannoli. It LOOKED like a cannoli, but thatâs where the similarities end. Cannolies have a flaky hard shell, and a creamy ricotta filling. These ones had an almost cookie likeshell, with something resembling pudding or Bavarian cream filling. Cannoliâs filling should stay inside when picked up. This one dripped our. I was so disappointed!

The food is nice but the service is terrible at both Mayaguez locations, this includes waiting for the order to be taken for more than 15 minutes when the place is almost empty, being asked to move three times in one occasion (refuse to move after the 2nd one), being told they didn't have an item and seeing other tables getting the item and ordering theirs after you did or just being completely ignored. Also the prices are a little high for basically eating pizza, last time I went there I spent $70 on 2 medium size pizzas (one ham & one pepperoni), family sized breadsticks, a pitcher of Pepsi, a pasta dish, and 4 Coors light (they had a 2 x 1 special).

Viapias, despite the assumed contraction in the name of the famous Roman road (Via Appia) has almost displaced one of the most famous pizzerias in Mayagüez (see my reviews), and I am not surprised. Although their products are a bit pricier, they are better. Their pizza is spectacular, not to mention their huge stromboli and calzone (both can feed two). They also have a nice selection of dinner entrées. Their appetizer sampler, which I usually enjoy with wine or beer, is great to share with friends on a light hangout.

Sancho Panza is a nice Pizza restaurant at Mayaguez, they have also a variety menu, including Churrasco, Mofongo and others. The service is one of the best. I went with my family and really we enjoy the time there.
