My wife and I stopped by "The Place" for lunch today. "The Place" just opened here off Peavine Road in Crossville, Tennessee. We each ordered the pulled pork sandwich because of the heavenly aroma that greeted us when we walked through the door.The juicy generous portion of pulled pork was served piled high on a fresh sesame seed bun. While the pork and bun were both very good, and the cole slaw was outstanding, it was the homemade sauce that made our lunch memorable - - a tangy tomato type, spicy but not hot, with tiny pieces of onion. Quite possibly the best sauce I've had in many, many years. We had a nice conversation with Ross, the owner, who also has a bakery there. He gave each of us a free cinnamon bun as a thank you for coming by. All this for ten bucks! The cinnamon buns weren't as big as the ones you'll find at the Cinnabon store at the mall, but the taste was every bit as good. We hope Ross will do well in his new business here - - we'll be repeat customers as well as anyone else who comes to "The Place".;

Nick's reminds me of the lemon ices I got when I was a kid. While they have a multitude of flavors I usually get the lemon flavor, probably because it returns me to my childhood. While open during the warm weather season I wish it was open year round. The staff is young adults but are very well trained and enjoy their jobs. They eagerly tell you about the history of Nick's and answer all questions. There is a few tables to sit at outside, no inside seating, that let you enjoy your treat without having to sit in your car. A cool treat for your mouth and tummy.

Villa Pizza & Pasta

While staying in Fairfiled Glade, my wife and have discovered that few restaurants are open on Sunday's. When we needed a quick meal and didn't really want to drive out to Crossville, we decided to try Villa Pizza and Pasta, one of the few places open on Sunday and Monday. We're glad we did even though we were the only people in the restaurant when we first arrived, giving cause for concern. More people soon arrived after we were seated. We ordered the Cheese Bread with Marinara for our appetizer. Then we ordered a medium (12") pizza with five different toppings on each half. While we were waiting for our Cheese Bread and pizza, the two servers who were working noticed a skunk just outside the restaurant. They told us the skunk had been hanging around for over a week and they had been feeding it. A man, who appeared to be the restaurant owner, brought them some bread and told them to go outside and feed the skunk. We watched through the window as they did, expecting them to be sprayed. However, the skunk seemed thankful for the bread and ate it without causing a "stink". When we left the restaurant about 45 minutes later, the skunk was still sitting near the door under some bushes. While it was amusing to watch from inside the restaurant, I'm not sure how smart it is to encourage a skunk to hang around the door of your restaurant where your customers could be sprayed.Anyway, the Cheese Bread with Marinara arrived quickly and it was delicious! We ate every bite of it. Our pizza came soon after. The crust was thin and crispy, just the way we enjoy our pizza crust. There was plenty of sauce on the pizza and the toppings were plentiful. Everything was delicious! We were very glad we ate at Villa Pizza and Pasta, though we did take a WIDE berth around the skunk and quickly scrambled to our car as we left.

We usually go there to celebrate special occasions or a special dinner with friends. We went last night, and ordered dinner. The restaurant was not crowded, in fact had empty tables. I ordered Spaghetti Carbonara and salad. The salad was excellent but that's where my dinner turned into disappointment. I was served a very oily thin sauce over pasta that had a bitter flavor overpowered with pepper. I expected an authentic Carbonara sauce made with eggs, creamy with Romano cheese like I've had in Rome Italy many times. I questioned the waitress if I had the right dish. She said I did and the owner came over and told me I was used to the American version and that this dish was authenic, that chef cooked sauce with wine, NOT! There is no wine in Carbonara. The waitress asked if I'd like something else, and I did order a sandwich it was good. They charged me for both the terrible pasta dish and the sandwich. Never have we experienced a meal like that. The others that were with us agree that their meals were not up to par either. Guess this memory will have to fade before we return to this establishment.

When in Rome... I only am in town every few months, so my variable menu choices are limitedWhile I would be open to explore the menu, the Grouper is second to none though the Maryland Crab Cakes would be next...not a far stretch.Tried their homemade potato chips and they were excellent.Heads up to our server Lisa, who was pleasantly personable!An above average experience.
