The newly renovated Packwood Lodge sits just 4 miles from the entrance to Mt Rainier National Park and a short 20 minute drive to beautiful White Pass. Offering 21 tastefully appointed guest rooms, and featuring 9 new cozy cabins with full kitchens and luxurious jetted tubs for relaxing after your days activities. The Packwood Lodge is conveniently located to all the recreational opportunities that our area has to offer. Providing cable television, high speed internet, and electric car charging, along with other great amenities.
We stayed in the main building, on the second floor. The room was clean and welcoming. Although it faced the highway, traffic noise wasn't objectionable. The venetian blinds and the blackout curtains did an excellent job of keeping the room dark during the night. We particularly liked being able to just walk across the parking lot to an excellent restaurant on the property.

I come to the area to hike, and Packwood is a good location, with fairly easy access to both the east and west sides of Rainier, and also lots of forest lands to the south and east as well. I have stayed at the Crest Trail before, and, as you can see, I keep coming back. Note that if you're just going to spend a few days at Rainier, Ashford will save you a lot of driving, though. My style is early to bed, early to rise, get out on the trail with all the daylight I can manage, so I go to bed early - meaning quiet matters a lot to me. Once it gets dark and the highway traffic is down, it is SO quiet there, you may hear snoring three doors down :) Microwave, mini-fridge (don't count on the freezer for much) and coffee maker in the room. I don't find Packwood restaurants very appealing and tend to just eat salads and something I can heat quickly in my room for dinner. The lodge serves up a pretty good brown bag breakfast, including an egg/sausage/cheese/muffin you can heat in the room, plus plenty of other choices in addition, with paper and plastic plates and forks in the out of service dining area. One night power went down and I was very impress by how well Becky the manager handled it, handing out flashlights, water, extra blankets, etc. They flip-flopped a bit on masking, despite the state mask mandate, under orders from the owner (who has a number of hotels in the area); I did not appreciate this and was more comfortable with the "wear your mask" signs. I considered dinging a star in my rating but in the end, I just avoided hanging out in the lobby when other people were there. I enjoyed talking with Becky and her family about the area, the business, my plans (someone had my back in case I didn't make it back after a hike). In short, it became my cozy home away from home, with a very comfortable stay. There was no daily service for the room, but everything I needed was readily available for the asking. Oh, I got in some amazing hikes too! Hint: if the weather is wet, consider driving over White Pass to Yakima, and Yakima Canyon just north of town, if you want a dry hike..

Back to Mountain View Lodge two years later and the stay is same great, but the rooms improved. Great wifi, hospitable owners, cozy fire pit. The only thing I wish for is a bit firmer mattress - I'm not a fan of soft beds. Overall, the best motel to stay in Packwood/White Pass ski area.

Not sure what the last reviewer was thinking. I have definitely stayed in many worse places, perhaps they’ve never stayed in a motel. Totally different level than a hotel as we know. So about this one: It’s a fine motel. It’s an old road side motel. Checkin was pleasant. Refrigerator and coffee pot inside. Separate closet. I deducted a star only because of the interior wear after the 2018 interior remodel. Skiers are tough on rooms IMHO. Nothing too serious but it has that older roadside motel feel to the interior, even with three year old furnishings. I’ll be back if I’m back in packwood. Two restaurant/ and a bar with food are within 300 feet and the town’s IGA grocery store is next door. That’s super convenient.
