We stayed for 3 nights. Enjoyed dinner one evening and had breakfast each morning. Our room was close to elevator and we were located on 3rd floor. The evening meal and service was good. Not too formal. Breakfast was pre order and our selection was provided on trays each morning under current practice at the hotel. Staff were friendly. We used the parking free of charge at the rear of hotel and relatively secure for motorcycle and or car. There was a number of cats in and around the property. A touring motorcycle parked at the rear of the hotel was covered in cat fur etc as it was used by cats during its stay. This required cleaning to remove stains and fur. While eating dinner a cat parked itself on the top of high cupboard in the dining room. All a little distracting and somewhat interesting. The staff efficient and courteous. Perhaps those who do not favour cats may find them a possible distraction. The hotel is central and easily accessable. The hotel has its own character.

At the very heart of the >, the Nouailles domain offers an ensemble of cottages on a 9-hectare park at the edge of a forest facing a lake. This is a quiet place ideal for resting and for discovering the natural beauties of the Upper Perigord.
We stayed here as a family for a week in August in a large cabin. The standard of accommodation was very high with good quality fittings and lots of room. I must however add that there were 3 of us and the cabin is designed to sleep up to 9. The cabin consisted of a bedroom upstairs with a single and a double bed, a twin room down stairs, a room with bunk beds downstairs and a pull out sofa bed in the living room. There was also a good sized kitchen leading out onto raised decking with room to seat several people around a table and all overlooking a very nice lake. The site is not that big with maybe 50 cabins, a central admin building which has a swimming pool, sauna, pool tables and payable WiFi. It is all very well maintained. Note that as this is a self catering site, there is no restaurant on site however there is a small restaurant on the other side of the lake (about a 5 minute walk tops) which was really quite nice and not too expensive either. There is also a man made beach at the side of the lake which was a big hit with the kids. Nontron was a great base for exploring this part of France however be aware that if you don't have a car, this could be too isolated for you. The only downside was that the advertised kids club did not actually exist and unfortunately neither the travel agent nor the resort have responded to this other than admitting that it was not running (which of course I already knew). it is for this reason I have not given this resort 5 stars as I was left with a very disappointed 6 year old and had to rethink some of our holiday. All in all we did have a great relaxing holiday

Wonderful stay, kevin and Angela fantastic and laid back. Such an amazing location and perfect surroundings. You'll need a car to get around as village's are spread over some distances, our room was cosy and views gorgeous. Will definitely be returning hopefully next year....

My parents, brothers and their families and myself stayed at Forge Basse for two weeks at the end of July. The old barn has been converted into two gîtes which are very nicely laid out. We were a party of 11 that took both gîtes. The property was sais back from a minor road down a long drive, with woodland and a small river right behind. A large enclosed swimming pool kept the kids entertained. There were a couple of small boats to use on the river and some fishing gear. They also had a family of otters and Coypu living on the river. Set a few miles from Nontron with its super marches, restaurants and knife museum, it was an idyllic spot for a great family getaway. The host Guillaume was always available if you needed anything.
