Stay and relax in a lovely period home along the city's main streets. You'll be more comfortable than a hotel, and you'll feel like you're at home. Walking distance to the downtown area.
Last week we spend 2 nights at the Inn our 4th visit over the last few years. Our room,Currier, was fine although given the nature of any old building we could hear the constant movement of the guests above us. The staff immediately took care of a very minor issues. The young morning breakfast person is extremely courteous. We will be back

The Compass Rose is a beautiful building, and our room was perfect. Caitlin, the manager, was wonderful and so nice. she greeted us when we arrived, and was there the next day, setting up breakfast. The Compass Rose is perfectly located, within a short walk to downtown Newburyport, with its shops and restaurants. By the way, the breakfast spread was very good! We will be back!

We booked the Garrison Inn as a weekend getaway for my 30th birthday!! This was one of the few places that allowed pets (our 65lb coonhound got to experience Newburyport!). It was close to downtown and all of the restaurants and rail trail/water walkway. Check in was 4pm. We were there around 350pm had no problem checking in. Two people at the front desk were very nice. Quick check in and gave us keys and three papers. One was put on our dash of our car and we were able to park right out front. Other one was TV channels and third showed info about ice makers, checkout times, WiFi info. Everything you needed to know. We checked into room 306 with the king bed facing the park. It had the soft music playing and rose pedals and a rose on the bed. I was absolutely blown away. There was a large king bed which was comfortable, tv, lounge chair, fireplace, desk and chair and bathroom. Windows had wood shutters that opened. Blocked all the light at night. Very quiet area. Bathroom had plenty of towels and large shower. There was robes in the closet, a fridge, and even umbrella we utilized while walking our dog in the rain!! There was extra pillows and blankets in the closet so you didn’t have to bug anyone for additional blankets which we usually do. Dimming lights on back wall and lots of tv channels to choose from. There was bottled water for additional pricing ($5) or 24/7 room service for drinks/alcohol which we didn’t need to utilize. There was a lot of great history to read on the walls about the inn. Complimentary tea time was 7-10pm. We were able to make our own tea and there were scones and cookies. This was awesome. Next morning there was complimentary breakfast that you ordered at the window. Options from omelets, sandwiches to bagels. Grapefruit juice and water as well as coffee and tea. Just one man doing it all he was doing his best. Checkout was 11am and so easy. They even gave the dog a treat on her way out. Just blown away as to how clean and beautiful this place was. Can’t wait to come back again!

Ideally located one block from the waterfront in beautiful downtown Newburyport. Steps from wonderful restaurants, shops, galleries, cafes, museums live theater; across the street from indoor pool and fitness center. Minutes by car from the ocean beaches in three states!
The Market St. Inn is in a great walkable location, close to waterfront and restaurants. But beware that this is more of a rooming house than an inn. You enter into a hallway (with ironing board and iron - handy but not really welcoming.) There is no lobby or living room. Our room was small and basically fine with a good mattress. But the sink is in the room and the bathroom is tiny with toilet and an old tiled shower. Also, this isn’t a B&B. You do get a Bed but there is no Breakfast.
