The smallest state capital in the United States, Montpelier's humble appearance belies the abundance of activity and culture humming under its surface. Hubbard and North Branch Parks offer a wealth of outdoor activities, from cross country skiing in the winter to hiking and mountain biking in warmer months. The Winooski River offers challenging whitewater rafting and canoeing. Montpelier also offers a number of cultural pursuits, from numerous galleries and museums to the gold-domed State House.

Located next to Applebee's Restaurant and Maplewood Convenience Store & Deli. UPDATE: We are currently renovation part of our hotel right now. It is mostly in our short wing so it should not interfere with the other wing, but if you are a light sleeper, just let us know when making reservation and we can put your room further down the hall away from all construction.
I hardly ever give 5-star reviews to anything, but this place has it all -- pleasant staff, comfortable, quiet rooms with fridge, microwave and in-room Green Mountain coffee, as well as a really good breakfast. You open the steam table, and it looks like a butcher shop inside: sausage links and patties, bacon, and Canadian bacon. It seems like a new place, but apparently it has been there since 1989, so recently renovated.

We are a 5 bedroom Bed and Breakfast specializing in Full Hot Cooked Organic Breakfasts using primarily Local ingredients and serving only freshly made foods. We customize the breakfast for our guest and honor all special requests including gluten and/or dairy free and vegan.
Beautiful home and great people, definitely recommend. Quiet and peaceful, and getting in touch with Ann-Marie was a breeze. Loved the Mountain View King room, it was very clean and spacious and the bathroom is freshly redone. Would go back.

The Inn at Montpelier offers a classic New England experience, with charming accommodations and close proximity to local attractions.
Before hotels, inns were the norm for travelers. . We felt like we had stepped back to the (early) 19th Century--updated, of course, with modern plumbing, heating and electricity--during our two day stay at the Inn at Montpelier. Conveniently located, just a couple of blocks from the heart of Montpelier, we walked to local restaurants, the state capital, and our daughter's new apartment. Originally, we had reserved our room for just one night, but didn't want to travel home in a snowstorm, so added an extra night. We had a charming room in the annex, just across the driveway from the main inn. Besides our room, across the hallway was a commons room, with large dining table at one end, and a fire place, surrounded by a love seat and large, comfortable easy chairs on the other.. During the second day, my wife set up her computer on the common room dining table in order to work on a grant and communicate with her colleagues. I sat in the easy chair, alternating between clicking and scrolling plus reading an 850 pp. tome. What a comfortable, pleasant two-day interlude! We stayed Monday and Tuesday nights. Although the restaurant in the main house was closed Tuesday morning, save for a continental breakfast, it turned out to be much more, with a variety of quiches which could be warmed up, croissant and pastries, fruit and gourmet coffee. (There was also coffee and condiments in the annex where we stayed). On Wednesday, our final morning, the restaurant was open, and we had a full breakfast from their extensive menu. Although I note that there are several negative reviews, our stay was positive, very positive: quiet, restful, tastefully decorated with comfortable 19th Century furniture, the walls with prints and paintings, The Inn was first recommended to us last Summer by our daughter. At that time, we enjoyed High Tea on the Inn's front porch. Usually, when I visit my daughter, I stay at a motel in nearby Barre. Lately, however, all the motels have been filled, and the deluxe accommodations, like the hotel across from the state capital, while within the budgets of lobbyists and legislators, are well beyond our modest means. (However, the Inn's rates, though higher than those of the modest motels and usual soulless corporate chains, were within our budget. Hence, the Inn at Montpelier was a real find. My wife and I hope to l return again and again!
