Rustic and laid back
Reviewed By PeterJT46This is a rustic no frills resort. We picked as its advertising said it had a bar, restaurant, free WiFi, air-conditioning and a swimming pool. It has all these, but the bar only sold beer, the free WiFi was intermittent and patchy, especially when the generator is off each day between 10AM & 4 PM. Staff are fabulous, especially Julie, who runs the bar and kitchen. She prepares and serves fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is reasonably priced as is paid for in cash. Air-conditioning is not available between 10:00 and 16:00 as the generator is off. This can make an afternoon nap uncomfortable. A great back packers retreat but at FJ$200 a night

We are located on the only soft sand beach on Taveuni in a mid-price range . There are unobstructed views from all 3 cottages. Come stay with us if you want a couples only, noise free holiday. A truly magical gem of Taveuni!
Reviewed By J872AKvanessak5 stars is not enough for this amazing resort! Your own private bure ( cabin) on the beach is everything you could want for comfort and feeling you are truly in Fiji. The warm and friendly staff is a perfect mix of completely available to take care of your any needs but also non-intrusive. Their culinary skills are wonderful and everything I ate there was truly delicious and nurturing. Fresh caught fish daily, fresh fruit smoothies and beautiful salads were all delicious. Don’t miss taking their sea kayaks out to a private beach where the most beautiful reefs and sea life await your discovery while snorkeling. A pod of spinner dolphins jumped and swam around my kayak on my paddle out. I really can’t recommend this resort enough to truly experience Fiji at its best.

Reviewed By Experience748277Makaira is a hidden treasure. The resort overlooks the ocean on a pristine beach with great snorkeling and a peacefully private experience. The owners are some of the most down-to-earth people I have ever met. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Views from all 3 buildings that make up your private Villa have incredible 200 degree views of the sea and the resorts white sand beach on spectacular Vacala Bay. For a holiday like no other the only answer is Vacala Bay!

Reviewed By daniellef736Wow! Paul and Helena are truly an amazing duo. The villa and location are top notch but these two really brought our entire experience to life. When planning our trip to Fiji, we originally considered the traditional resort holiday but we are SO glad we kept searching for that "special something." Paul picked us up from the airport (barefoot, as promised!) and took us on a short ride to the villa where we met the lovely Helena and their sweet dog Taka. They instantly made us feel at home, like we were staying with old friends. They each have enormous talents which they've married to deliver the most unforgettable vacation .- from the impressively designed eco villa to the impeccable five-star meals. We enjoyed being able to take each day as it came and not having to plan or coordinate activities too far in advance (though I know they both worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make things happen seamlessly for us!) We especially enjoyed getting to tag along on trips into town where we got a better sense of local life. And as if that wasn't enough, they even planned a few thoughtful surprises for us. The entire experience just felt so personal and unlike anything we could ever find elsewhere. It was truly magical! Vinaka! Thank you! Until next time...

Reviewed By Kelly YWe had the absolute pleasure of staying at Vakanananu Retreat in the summer of 2019 and every moment of it was glorious. As some of the first guests we really got to witness something so genuine and special come to life in the way of this eco resort and it was something we’d never experienced before! The eco resort is so perfectly remote and private and yet has everything you could ever need. It’s wonderfully spacious and clean with a kitchen equipped for you to cook yourself a real Fijian meal, a bed to die for, a shower with a view over the rainforest and a veranda that I promise you will never want to leave. There is nothing better than reading a book in the hammock chairs with your view of the ocean in the absolute quiet or lighting the candles and watching the sunset over the rainforest while you eat your dinner. This is the perfect paradise and Sharon and Grant are the most welcoming couple that did everything to make our stay relaxing and filled with activity all at once! They helped us find a dive school and gave us the best tips on where to explore! They also provided us with yoga mats to use and even snorkel gear to use at the beautiful coral reefs that are just a 5 minute walk down the hill from their property! We dream, everyday of visiting this place again. Vakanananu Retreat, Taveuni and Moana the dog will forever have our hearts.
