This review is for the restaurant / cafe and not the hotel as we stayed elsewhere. I wish we had stayed here. Simple and charming outdoor cafe and restaurant. The menu has a few selections…beef, chicken, fish either grilled, curry, etc. fish was cooked perfectly and was delicious. It was also a rare place to sit and enjoy a cold beer. Two thumbs up

We stayed at Alcamar Lodge for 14 nights during November-December 2021. We booked personally with the Lodge and our booking was handled quickly and very professionally by the delightful English speaking Hairati in Front Office. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff with a welcoming cocktails. As we were the only guests, because of Covid travel restrictions, we were upgraded to a large 76m2 Suite the Prestige. The room is a traditionally decorated, third floor suite with two huge king size beds and the lounge had spectacular sea views all round. The room is equipped with air-conditioning and a minibar stocked with water, juice and beer. There is a large flat screen TV in the lounge area with all the French and local channels which gave us some trouble on arrival but it was fixed within two days by the very friendly and persistent Maintenance team. The WiFi connection wasn't working but this was sorted out quickly by Wasfydine of the Front Office who provided us with our own personal router which solved the problem for the rest of our stay. The well equipped bathroom is located on the open outside balcony where you can take an alfresco shower or linger in the comfortable bathtub while overlooking the ocean. Pristine white bath towels and face cloths comes standard and are replaced on request. The restaurant is a very basic open-air space with additional tables and chairs closer to the the sea, weather permitting. Restaurant staff are all very friendly and helpful. We felt that the servers lacked an eye for detail and basic training in serving, visual awareness of guests and their surroundings and more knowledge about options especially for breakfast ( which is not on a menu ) could significantly improve the guest experience. Sometimes changing the fresh flower decorations on the tables, restaurant, the buffet tables and throughout the lodge is overlooked. The limited menu for lunch and dinner is the same but provides good options for short stay guests. It however tends to become repetitive during a long stay. ( There are not many alternative restaurants on the Island ) Special meal requests can be arranged with the Chef. Communication with the servers is vital to make sure you get what you order and don't be afraid to ask when something seems missing. We had wonderful evening meals at our requested waterside table ( here a little more light could be provided as the small battery operated candles don't provide enough light to see the food in the plate ) Don't be in a rush as things happen in Island time. Regarding the drinks menu, take note it is expensive even in UK or EU standards. A small 50cl Heineken Beer will set you back 4 Euro and a bottle of Chinon Rose Wine is priced at 40 Euro. It is understandable that being an Island that depends solely on imports of non essential and luxury products, it will be expensive, but we found the same wine in Moroni for a quarter of the price. If you arrive with European expectations after looking at the glossy online website, you might be disappointed but if you arrive with no expectations and see this as a Tropical break away from all comforts and everyday life, you will not be disappointed. The Comores doesn't have a regular electric power supply, and for this reason the Lodge runs totally off a generator which needs to be refuelled during the day when there is no power for short periods, there is also no water. But don't worry it gets back on after a while. Looking at the breathtaking sea views one realises that everything can sometimes go wrong but here nature never disappoints. Alcamar Lodge is one of the best places to stay on the island at the moment and there is huge potential to be even better. It has the perfect location with its own private beach, friendly staff and all basic amenities. My only true criticism could be the lack of Management. We understood that the Lodge was in the process of changing GM's but the new GM should be more involved with guests regarding their needs and experiences. We saw him only 3 times during our 14 days stay and he didn't once engage with us regarding our experience or our stay. Thank you to Samatha ( Front Office ), Sara ( Housekeeping), Dan ( Waiter) and Wasfydine( Front Office) for excellent service. We can highly recommend this Lodge for your stay on Grande Comores.

Hotel Les Arcades is located at the heart of Moroni city. It offers easy access to downtown businesses. You will enjoy the greenery of the surroundings and be surprised by the quality of service for the price you will be paying. Services include: - Private and secured parking - Welcome drink - One or two breakfasts offered based on the type of room booked - Wi-Fi connection - TV and AC - Hot water and electricity 24 hours - Transfer to and from airport can be organised upon request A boardroom and office spaces are available for those traveling for business For the most adventurers, we can assist you in planning hikes to Karthala volcano or for those dreaming of white sand beaches, we can help you get to the most beautiful beaches of the island.
We stayed here for two nights in september 2021. The communication upfront was very good! They organised a taxi to pick us up from the airport (around 35 min, 20 euro). The hotel has a nice reception and an indoor garden. The restaurant serves very good food for a good price. They also serve alcohol :) The rooms are spacious and the bathroom has warm water. From the balcony you can see a great sunset! Reception is nice, they give good advice and also sell some pretty souvenirs (not to find in the city) for a normal price. They also can organise trips (like Mt Karthala) on request. It is an easy walk into town. We really liked our stay here!

Conveniently nestled on the Western coast of Grand Comoros island, the resort boasts spectacular views of the endless Indian ocean and direct access to a magnificent private beach. The resort is merely 15 minutes’ drive from Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport and just 5 minutes’ drive from Moroni (the largest city on the island).
I have visited Comoros a few times over the years. I must say how impressed I was with the Golden Tulip! We showed up without a reservation and they accommodated us so well! Beautiful rooms. Fast Wi-Fi. Strong AC. The electricity never turned off due to solid genenerators. Loved the free breakfast. But most of all, absolutely loved the natural beauty surrounding us here! Crystal clear water and a beautiful beach. Magical sunsets with giant vampire bats flying overhead. We loved the friendly staff who accommodated our every need. I’m definitely coming back!

There was plenty of hot water and the sea view was very nice. That’s about it. The hotel is in a very sad state. Our first room had no AC. After leaving it on for three hours, it had cooled to a balmy 30 degrees Celsius. The repair guy just told us to leave it on for a few days (of our 3 day stay). Despite the hotel being mostly empty, they were very reluctant to move rooms. Ultimately they did and the AC was adequate. The rest of the room, not so much Sheets were torn and threadbare. There were exposed wires to the outlet in the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it seems the maintenance requests for the last 15 years May have gone missing. The tiles were filthy and moldy. The towel rack was dangling from the wall. We were visiting during Ramadan, so food options were very limited in the city. Our lunch here was pretty awful. The buffet had all the canisters unlit and the food cold. Salad items and beans left out overnight and just reused each day. The pool had not been cleaned in months and had no chairs. The guard told me that no one ever uses it. The worst part was the communication. They could give no recommendations for anywhere else to eat (“everything is closed during Ramadan”). Not true, we later found a very nice restaurant. We were also told that it was impossible to find a taxi after 7pm. We walked out the gate and within 30 seconds flagged one down. They seemed totally puzzled on where to get a Covid test even though it seems there is ONE place. The answer to nearly every question was “it’s not possible” I set low expectations given the infrastructure in Moroni but this place was not good. We saw many better options

Merci. Valentin et Céline.
