Built on the site of The Chopping Knife Inn and formerly a vicarage, school for young gentleman and a temperance inn; The Antrobus Arms Hotel is an original listed 17th Century Coaching Inn set in the ancient town of Amesbury a stones throw away from Stonehenge and nearby Salisbury. We have 20 individually styled en-suite rooms, one of which is our Beatles Suite where the fab 4 (The Beatles) stayed while they were filming ‘Help’ on Salisbury Plain. The hotel has also been host to television programmes and films, including being a location for the filming of Agatha Christies ‘Miss Marple’. The hotel is perfectly placed to access a wide variety of attractions – both local and afar. With local bus and rail links running seven days a week, Amesbury is the perfect place to act as a base to explore southern England. We will never stay again, my partner and I arrived for the one evening to attend a motor show at Thruxton Raceway a last week. Completely appalled by the accommodation we chose. Upon arrival there was no one at the front desk and we had to go searching for a member of staff, to be found smoking and drinking with a group in the rear garden of the property. The women looked like she had just woken up with no name badge and her lipstick ... I can describe as gueswork? We were given our key and told where to go but no offer for help with our bags up the what felt like 100 steps (no lift). The room was still being cleaned which was fine as we were 30min early before check in, so the housekeep let us leave our belongings in the rooms and we waited in the garden as it was a nice day. - there was a pair of gentleman mid 40-50 smoking what I can describe as whacky backy at the top of the garden and then after joined the group with the member of staff. The swearing and shouting, the dogs running around begging for our crips and poo everywhere. We only stayed for the one drink and then headed down the road to find some food before heading to our event. Returning to the hotel, there was loud noises in the bar area, we decided to skip this and head straight to bed. 1am and there party was still going strong, people running up and down the corridoors and shouting, singing and loud music still playing. In the morning i expressed my concerns with the women serving breakfast but she informed me that all she could do is talk with the manager - later I found out while having lunch in another local pub up the road, it was the manager who checked us in the morning and was still there partying in the evening, apparently this happens all the time? I wasn't going to leave a review, but finding this out - it's my duty to warn others who consider to stay here.

A great overnight stay at this lovely hotel. My hubby has stayed on many previous occasions and had told me how nice it was and how friendly the owners are and he was so right. The room was large, warm, clean & the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was really big! Would highly recommend and hope to visit again. The breakfast was yummy and very filling. Thank you to Keith & Tracy for the very warm welcome. xxx

Filthy hotel, disgusting.

Only giving this one star as it’s not possible to leave less. Thank god we only had to stay one night. Whilst we might be able to forgive all the peeling paint and wallpaper we cannot forgive the dirt and grime everywhere, nor the horrible smell of cigarette smoke which was coming into the hotel from the staff standing outside. It was truly a horrible hotel. Our bathroom sink had grime everywhere that I could peel off with a finger nail so why it couldn’t be cleaned is beyond me. Horrible black bits came out of the tap so I couldn’t clean my teeth. The breakfast room was also dirty and dusty, we even found cobwebs on the bench where my daughter was sitting. There is a kettle for you to boil water for tea in the breakfast room that was absolutely filthy. So off putting. The hotel seems proud of its 16th century roots but I think it has neither been decorated nor cleaned since then. Truly foul! There was a small group of American tourists visiting Stonehenge and I was embarrassed on their behalf. Please don’t waste your money staying here.
