Devil's Hole State Park

09/06/2020. My continued pandemic hikes around the region lead us to Devil’ Hole State Park. The day was great, sunny and about 70 degrees. The trail is extensive and to say the least not boring. Most of it is tree covered so you will not have a hot sun beating down on you during your hike. I would definitely wear hike boots if you have some and bring some water to drink. The trail has numerous steps, up and down my iPhone tracked us at 30 flights and about 5 miles round trip. You can definitely spend less time than that if you so desire. I would start you trip on the North side of the trail facing the Power Generating plant. Take the steps down and hike southward along the gorge and the rushing rapids as you hear the sounds of the mighty Niagara River. One can continue on until you get to the bottom of the whirlpool gorge where you can sit along the shoreline as the rushing water goes by you. Overhead you can see the Aero car taking sightseers across the whirlpool gorge. Make your way back using the whirlpool steps and take the upper trail back to your car in the parking lot.

Niagara Aerospace Museum

Reviewed By BillK455 - Spencerport, United States

Wanted to get away for my birthday and decided to go to Niagara Falls to see the aerospace museum which focuses on the aviation history of upstate NY and includes actual aircraft from Curtiss Wright, Bell Aerospace and the Consolidated Aircraft Co. They had a unique one of a kind Cunningham-Hall GA-36 built in Rochester NY (was first plane to feature double motion wing flaps devised to lower landing speeds and not flying speeds) which was exciting to see as well as an actual control panel used by a mission controller during the Apollo moon missions. I love space so it was nice to see what items they had including a Lunar Ascent Engine and Rocket Belt (like seen in "Thunderball"). The place includes a few nice helicopters and lots of items celebrating the aviation history of NY. Being on the airport grounds, you might get lucky to see various planes taking off or landing. Highly recommended museum for history and aviation buffs.

Whirlpool State Park

This was my first visit to the park. There are quite a few stairs to get down to the gorge. The views are picturesque and you can really appreciate the beautiful scenery. I would plan for at least a 1 1/2-2 hr. visit and hike on a cooler day. I highly recommend Whirlpool State Park and plan on visiting again.
