Kirkwall (Scottish Gaelic: Bàgh na h-Eaglaise) is the largest settlement and capital of Orkney, an archipelago in the north of Scotland, as well as the most populous island settlement in Scotland. The city is first mentioned in Orkneyinga saga in the year 1046 when it is recorded as the residence of Rögnvald Brusason the Earl of Orkney, who was killed by his uncle Thorfinn the Mighty. In 1486, King James III of Scotland elevated Kirkwall to the status of a royal burgh; modern roadsigns still indicate "The City and Royal Burgh of Kirkwall".

Their welcoming retail shop at 69 Albert St, Kirkwall is stocked with all their jewellery ranges as well as a large range of beautiful gifts, including Aurora's exclusive tartan accessories, a vast stock of Highland outfits and accessories and a made to measure service will meet all your kilt requirements.
Went into the shop on the Main Street and was informed by the owner ( Steven ) that he had an open workshop in St Ola. Took a ride out the following day and low and behold , Steven was their and let us look round and showed us how their Jewellery was made. Very reasonably priced unlike certain others on the island and I bought a lovely necklace and charm for my wife . Again highly recommend and well worth a trip out of the town to see him at work.

small local knitwear studio with gifts and crafts from around Orkney for sale.
We were greeted at the door by a big friendly Labrador who also models scarves for the shop. The knitted items are superb and are knitted in the store on the loom. We were so impressed with my scarf we are having a jumper made. Good value would thoroughly recommend.
