Asturias (/æˈstʊəriəs, ə-/; Spanish: [asˈtuɾjas]; Asturian: Asturies [asˈtuɾjes]; Galician: Asturias), officially the Principality of Asturias (Spanish: Principado de Asturias; Asturian: Principáu d'Asturies), is an autonomous community in north-west Spain. It is coextensive with the province of Asturias, and contains some of the territory that was part of the larger Kingdom of Asturias in the Middle Ages. Divided into eight comarcas (counties), the autonomous community of Asturias is bordered by Cantabria to the east, by Castile and León to the south, by Galicia to the west, and by the Bay of Biscay to the north.

So without any itinerary, we proceeded to walk west from our apartment and found ourselves in a park called Campo de San Francisco. Within its grounds were carefully manicured lawns and magnificent trees punctuated with old and new low key structures, examples of which are an ancient arch, modern sculptures, outdoor cafe, children’s playground, skateboard park, and hidden ponds populated by ducks and the ubiquitous pigeons. Each tree had an information placard that identified its genus and species much like a botanical garden. Its tranquil atmosphere stands in contrast to the traffic around its periphery. It was the perfect setting to have another cafe americano!
