Our family are here to see our daughter attend a kpop bootcamp. We stayed at Motif No1 Guesthouse for 5 nights. Totally recommend this place. The owner An Soo is a lovely, genuine, informative man who spoke English very well. Being here in mid Dec is rather cold. We wore thermal tops and bottoms, fleece, thick jackets, gloves and beanies. Heyri is very quiet during weekdays, and busy with tourists on weekends. We experienced both. On weekdays it's lovely to stroll around the village, admire the unique architecture houses and structures, visit museums, galleries, and lots and lots of cafes. The Le Silence Cafe is exceptional with fine bakery and French interior. We also took a lovely walk up to a peak (from gate 7) to see a glimpse of North Korea over the water, and of course the city of paju in the distance. We visited both the Paju Premium Outlet and the Lotte Premium Outlet. Both Successful in buying shoes! In Paju Bookcity, we also visited some libraries / book stores which was lovely and unique. In the evening around Heyri there are numerous lovely restaurants. Also there are lovely light displays to take photos. Heyri is very different to nearby Seoul. Much calmer and quiet. We learnt Heyri have designed governance such as houses cannot have fences, paths are made of wood or stones... No cement. ???? Also from the main road is bus number 2200 that takes you straight to Seoul in 45 minutes and cost 2,900krw. Also there is the "English Village" which originally was built as a theme park but is now rented out to such events as a kpop dance academy. But you can walk around and take lively photos there too.

This was the first stop of our VIP half day morning tour of DMZ. We can see the Freedom bridge through which prisoners of war returned to South Korea. Also the hundreds of messages of peace and unification posted by South Koreans whose familes and friends have been separated from them and are now living in North Korea. Also on display is a steam locomotive riddled with more than 1,000 bullets, which serves as a grim reminder of the Koreannwar.
