With water, water everywhere, visitors to Kill Devil HIlls indulge in fishing and crabbing, quiet kayaking, robust surfing or parasailing, peaceful seaside cycling and that favorite, toes-in-the-sand enjoyment of the beach. This barrier island township is the center of the Northern beach and home to about 7,000 year-round residents. Summer welcomes visitors anxious to share the natural landscapes and village-like appeal. Savor long stretches of Atlantic views and silky sands. If you’re a history buff, visit area lighthouses and the National Memorial honoring Wilbur and Orville Wright, who accomplished the first controlled powered flight in 1903. In nearby Kitty Hawk, Seascape Golf Links challenge players with changing elevations and coastal landscapes. A popular day trip just 17 miles to the southwest, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Elizabeth Gardens and live performances of “The Lost Colony” combine to preserve and present the background of Native American culture and Sir Walter Raleigh’s colonization efforts in the late 1500’s.

This is a artist operated gallery with various mediums on display (oil, watercolor, pottery, jewelry, photography, mosaic sculpture to name a few) all by local artists. This was an interesting gallery, one of many of many on our cool day gallery morning. We bought some locally sourced, small batch honey. Yum!

Located in the Outer Banks, this preserve is one of only a few maritime forests left in its natural state.
If you're looking for a change of scenery or some trail running (can get runs in between 1-7miles), you have to visit this unique corner of the Outer Banks

Part of a gentle five-mile hiking trail at Nags Head Woods.
I loved hiking this trail, not too taxing or long (3.5 miles) but a lot of interesting sights along the way.

They have everything! Clothing, beach supplies, souvenirs, fishing tackle, and the most delicious deli subs and hot subs. Even toasted the bun perfectly! Ordered subs and grabbed some drinks and had a perfect picnic lunch on the beach at our hotel

The Bird Store- The Outer Banks Wildlife Art Gallery is a must! Our old Nags Head style shop is full of wildlife art....decoys, carvings of pelicans, shorebirds, herons, etc.,paintings and prints of herons, birds, pelicans, sporting dogs, seashore, etc., driftwood, gifts, and more. Stop in when visiting the Outer Banks and take a look!
My wife was looking for a very specific piece of driftwood to use as a centerpiece and saw this place as we were driving by. The owner is very friendly. He is knowledgeable of the area and easy going. We thought the prices were fair for everything we looked at in the store. There is a good selection of bird related decor items and a. few turtles and others as well. The driftwood prices were very cheap! Much less than anywhere else we had seen. Nice local place to get some unique pieces.

Mom's is a unique store on the main road that offers shopping including all of the brand name products such as Hershel, Benny Gold, Nike, Adidas, etc. Mom's also sells vintage jewelry and clothing. Also, if you are looking for a cool treat or have a sweet tooth this is the perfect location. The milkshakes and ice cream are extremely delicious. There is a smorgasbord of candy to choose from where you pay by weight. The owners are very active within in the shop and work hard to keep the environment friendly and enjoyable for everyone. I would definitely recommend visiting!
