This was a treat. We ended up here looking for somewhere else. Sat on one of the benches & just took in the atmosphere on a Monday morning- quiet & peaceful surrounded by beautiful buildings. Just watch the world go by.

Bartholdi Fountain is a masterpiece. Located in Place des Terreaux, it is in a perfect spot where you can walk around, visit a cafe and also visit the Art Museum at one end of the square. At the other end is the Hotel de Ville. There are some beautiful buildings all around too. The fountain was constructed in the 19th century. Initially it was meant for the city of Bordeaux, however due to what was considered extravagant costs, Bordeaux decided against it, so Lyon got it instead! The huge sculpture has a symbolic significance. It represents France as a female figure. The female figure is seated on a great chariot pulled by four beautiful horses representing the four great rivers of France. This is a sight not to be missed.
