You have to drive through a neighborhood that turns into a farm to get to River Hill, but it is well worth tracking down. It is a pretty small operation as distilleries go, but the owners are really down to earth and enthusiastic. Pop is happy to give a tour of the unassuming place: there is the tap room, and the small room behind it is the distillery. "This is my vat, those over there are my barrels." The bourbon and corn whiskey he makes are all worth picking up. If they aren't the best you've had, you will appreciate the taste of down home honesty. My wife was happy to chat with Mom and sample the fruity wines they sell (yes, including Sweet Potato.) I find those type of wines good for desserts or pancakes, but my wife likes the occasional spritzer. They were out of one that my wife selected, but she got a kick out of watching Pop decant her bottle directly from a barrel, and he let her label it and put the seal over the cork. The property itself is pretty large, and they do a number of other things aside from the distillery. You can buy meat at the counter with your wine, and they also board horses and I understand they have a shooting range. This is a place you want to visit just so you can recognize it when some author inevitably includes it as a setting in a novel.

If you're out leaf peeping in autumn, hiking in spring, river running in summer, enjoying a cozy fire at the cabin in winter, or just cruising the backroads of the treasure that is Page County Virginia , you have to stop by the Massanutten Country Corner. This is a treasure within a treasure. It has it all, flowers for mom, ice cream for dad, treats and sweets for the kids and goats and piggies for the wee ones. Lots of local veggies, honey, cider, jams, jellies, meats, ice cream and lots of crafts and gifts by local artisans. The artwork and paintings of familiar local scenes by valley artist are incredible. Oh and did I mention Homestead Creamery Ice Cream? The best ice cream in (and from) the valley!! Check out the koi pond and the garden shop and take in the breathtaking view of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east, the Massanutten Range to the west and the beautiful Page Valley nestled in between. The owners Jeff and Kristin are pretty special too, so nice and have truly never met a stranger and if you have any questions about the local area just ask Miss Brenda, she knows all things Page County. And if you're lucky you will catch a glimpse of Corky the Security Cat, but rest assured Corky is watching you!!

Stopped in on our way down to Harrisonburg for a long weekend. -- and glad we did. It's small (like 6 parking spots), and if you're not looking carefully - you'l drive right through Marksville and totally miss it. We parked, and wandered to the tasting room around back. Mike was great as our server. and the wines were awesome!! our best of the three wineries we tried this weekend. The farm was also nice for a walk with the kids -- but only a short walk as it was warm, muggy and buggy in the vineyards. The swing chair near the arbor was awesome though. Lots of room to find a quiet area. Parking: small dirt lot Service: Friendly Food: ? Bathroom: One - clean Wines: Excellent! Would recommend: Definitely Would re-patronize: Maybe in the fall, when it's less buggy.

We stopped here while visiting Luray. Cute adorable home decorations. We even bought a sign for our daughter who is getting married soon back home. “He stole my heart so I stole his last name” adorable place. Even bought some local apple butter which is so delicious. We definitely don’t have this back at home. Enjoyed browsing around this place.

Hawksbill Brewing Co

The five of us were on vacation over Thanksgiving and decided to give this a try. We shared a flight of the seven on tap varieties available plus they had non-alcoholic root beer which my really son enjoyed. At the time they had a coffee stout and a red ale which I enjoyed. There was a great variety of people there from the hipsters to the older crowd. The staff was very pleasant, quick and helpful... would definitely return the next time we're in the area.
