We had a family dinner at the Barnsdale Country Club restaurant. The ambience was nice and cosy. The food took a rather long time to come. I was disappointed with my sirloin steak. It was cooked 'medium' as requested but was very tough and tasteless. My sons ordered 'medium rare' sirloin steaks but their steaks were also very tough and tasteless. My wife enjoyed her pot roast lamb shank. All in all a rather disappointing meal but service was good.

The Green Bar and Bistro, set inside the Whipper-In Hotel on the Old Market Square in Oakham, is a relaxed restaurant with a cosy and authentic charm. Originally a 17th century coaching inn, the hotel retains its period appeal with warm open fires and com
We found this place by "accident" as we were on holiday looking for somewhere to eat. In fact as we parked the car & walked up the street it was a menu outside that invited us to dine here. We went in through the back entrance as that was the part of the hotel which we didn't realise at the time. I have to say at this point we came across the receptonist & she was very offhand with us .When we were seated she gave us a completely different menu to what we had spotted & was a "cafe" menu which we didn't want. After some consultation with her she stated that the chef was willing to cook our meals from the original menu we had seen phew ! (felt like hard work ) Following this a charming man came & took our order. Which was delicious & we had the curry which was very authentic in taste.I felt the decor was a little dated but what a pleasure to receive linen napkins which is rarely available these days. Mixed emotions about this place sadly.

'Fika'; the gorgeous new cafe in Oakham introducing Rutland to an important Scandinavian ritual. Somewhere friendly, stylish and comfortable to meet, have really good coffee, a slice of something deliciously Swedish...oh, and indulge in some shopping, too
The food was notable and the service efficient and quick. Good value for money and pleasant environment. Little echoey with coffee machine buzzing hence 4 stars not 5.

I visited today with a friend. The service was friendly, efficient and totally geared to our need to have a relaxed lunch. I have developed an intolerance to gluten and ordered a pizza with a gluten free base. It was excellent - by far the best gluten free pizza base I have had (and I've eaten plenty!). Additionally we benefitted from the 50% off food deal on Mondays. Thanks to all involved.

A new restaurant in Oakham from the award winning team at the Berkeley Arms Wymondham. Locally sourced produce in a lovely country kitchen setting.
We arrived for lunch, the restaurant was busy but the restaurant didnât feel overcrowded. Light and airy and tastefully decorated We were given a warm welcome and shown to our table and offered a choice of a set lunch or the al la carte menu. To be honest we could have chosen from either menu as both were full of delicious options. Service was professional, helpful and friendly and the food was exceptional. It is a very rare today to find such a lovely place to dine. Even though we live over 20 miles away, we will return.

We have now visited The Fox and Hounds on four occasions each time for Sunday lunch which is always superb.Because it is so good, and other people know about it, it is invariably fully booked and really it is necessary to book well in advance. This time we booked four weeks ahead. There were four of us all selecting beef for our main course, delicious, perfectly cooked as were all the vegetables, etc. Observation. Desserts chosen were accompanied by vanilla ice cream which lacked creaminess, it was rather watery.Staff are efficient and as the wheels of industry turn in the kitchen a well oiled performance is produced for all diners to enjoy. So looking forward to our next visit.
