Find out what European restaurants to try in La Ferte-sous-Jouarre including Auberge du Petit Morin, La Creperie du Petit Morin, Le Castel, O Lavrador, La Chaumiere - Mouroux, Restaurant La Croix D'or
This is a bar/tabac/restaurant which obviously has a wide and dedicated local following. We were looking for a light lunch and had to juggle a bit with the menu as they concentrate on full scale meals. However, there is a good salad bar and we decided on some desserts for two of us which were excellent. I was also able to get a serious pot of Earl Grey tea - not a tea bag and a cup of recently hot water which is so often the case in France. We regret that we were not up for a bigger meal and we were definitely not their best customers that day. Madame rushes about looking after the customers and is absolutely charming.Should you ever be passing go for a proper meal.

My two walking companions and I took the train from Paris to the end of the line at Coulommiers, then walked ten kilometers along the well-marked GR 14 hiking trail [660 kilometers long, it starts in Paris and ends at Malmedy, Belgium], through a forest and a vast field of retting flax until we reached the heart of Mouroux. Next to the town hall is the church of Saint Rémi; known as Saint Remigius in English, he was Bishop of Reims and baptized King Clovis I on December 24, 496, thereby firmly establishing Christianity as the religion of the Francs. Having read numerous positive comments online concerning the quality of the cuisine at La Chaumière, we were eager to try it for ourselves. Each chose the three-course, prix-fixe lunch for â¬14.00. For a starter, we all opted for the endive salad garnished with crumbled blue cheese and walnuts. Each chose a different main course; all were excellent: a pair of Saucisses de Bretagne, a white meat pork sausage served warm with a Port wine sauce; breaded turkey cutlet and roasted chicken. Desserts included Peach Melba, made with peaches and raspberry sauce with vanilla ice cream, created by Auguste Escoffier in honor of soprano Nellie Melba. Gilding the lily at La Chaumière was a laminated menu listing over 60 bottled ales, most the product of craft breweries and Trappist monasteries in France and Belgium, guaranteed to tempt and delight any beer-lover. I started with a Duchesse Anne, a triple bière de garde brewed by Bernard Lancelot at Roc St-André in Brittany, and followed with a dark, quadruple Rochefort Trappistes 10, produced by the monks at Rochefort Abbey in Belgium, without doubt one of the worldâs finest ales, scoring 100/100 on RateBeer.com. With a liter of sparking Badoit water and coffee, the check came to less than â¬65.00.
Bon accueil, assiettes bien remplies et plats goûteux pour un prix tout à fait raisonnable ! Une agréable surprise à La Ferté-sous-Jouarre qui reste un désert en matière de restauration...

We were the only ones in the restaurant and I can now understand why it was so.My entree of scallops was bland and overcooked, and the green salad bed was copious but had a dressing too tart to enjoy. My main course of monkfish kept the tasteless tradition alive. The cheese course (2 types rather than the 3 advised) was ok, as was the waffle and red berry dessert. My wife said that her mixed entree plate was uninteresting but that her steak main course was very good.Service was no problem as we were the only ones there. This place is not inexpensive ... had gone for the â¬55 menu which was definitely not worth it.Wine list was ok with a good selection of 1/2 bottles. The cost of this lunch for 2, with wine, was â¬200 for which I would have expected a memorable lunch with great food and great wine, but this even more than Paris price did not deliver any value for money. My recommendation would be to eat elsewhere.
Crêperie surprenante avec une décoration originale qui rappelle plus le fleuriste d'avant que le restaurant d'aujourd'hui. Les crêpes sont bonnes. Le cidre brut était correct mais il y a mieux.L'accueil est très sympathique.

A little bit out of town but worth the search! The traditional french food was excellent, service friendly and the duck to die for. For the menu at midday it was great value and plenty to eat, and the evening menu if I remember wasn't too much either. A place I will surely go back to!
