So you are out in the middle of the countryside and your expectations aren't high. You come to eat at La Forra which is known for their grilled meats and wonderful pasta dishes, all very regional ingredients and for 3 days in a row you keep coming back, by the third day we were 'home'. The owner of the restaurant takes great pride in his place and it is impeccably clean with views to the end of the Chianti countryside! The specials of the day are unique, interesting, uncomplicated with the freshest of ingredients and perfectly prepared. Would highly recommend this hideaway. Prices were a pleasant surprise as well.

Restaurant "Il Guarnellotto da Tornano" Our cuisine is essentially based on typical, traditional Chianti dishes. Those we offer have something in common â the strict use of genuine produce, starting from our Tuscan IGP extra virgin olive oil, only locally
In 2016 - while staying a few days in Florence, we & friends hired a driver to tour wineries. We had lunch & wine tasting at the Castello & after lunch we were informed the Castello was also a hotel. One of the owners, Fabiola, toured us and we knew â- if we had the chance in the future, we would stay here. Well, our âchanceâ - we rented a car & are touring Italy for 2+ weekâs..not making any advance hotel reservations â the day before we decided to go to Chianti, I was able to book 2-nights at the Castello. We arrived and Dominique greeted and checked us in - helped us with luggage to our beautiful room. He brought us complimentary glasses of wine - and we made reservations for dinner. When we arrived at the dining room, Celeste warmly welcomed us. We told her of our last visit and she had Anna (the Chef for the Castello) come out, so we could tell her about our experience in 2016. Truly, we felt like long-lost family, because of the warm reception. Dinner was extraordinary - from the Tuscan board with hams/cheeses, the pasta with wild boar ragu (my husband), the seasoned sliced beef, the delicious assortment of desserts, and the incredible winesâ-dinner was perfect! Celeste took care of anything we could have wanted...Breakfast each morning was just right - beautiful assortment of cereals, pastries, meats/cheeses, fruits, and yogurt...and of course coffee & juices. Maidel was attentive and so helpful.Loredana graciously helped us with recommendations for our day in Siena. She told us there would be a couple marrying in the Chapel later that morning and that Fabiola would be there. When we returned that afternoon - we were so lucky to be able to spend time with Fabiola - we learned how her Dad had purchased the Castello in 1970 and totally restored & renovated it. The structure dates back to 979AD. We knew we could not have any better dinner anywhere in Gaiole, so of course night two was booked and was equally as fantastic! I had the ravioli & my husband had the steak. Celeste was just as wonderful as our first evening. Maria Rosa (housekeeping) and Gurpreet (maintenance) are always helpful and warmly welcome you.Their wine is some of the best in all of Tuscany - in 2016 we had a case shipped to us and we are going to do again this year.Staying here was a dream come true - if you have ever thought what staying in a castle would be like - stay at the Castello di Tornano & your dreams will come true. We will be back -

We did not have a reservation & this restaurant was wonderful to let us in. The service was truly a fine dining experience. The wine was spectacular and the food was overall very good. We decided to try the Florentine steak & split it with the other couple. It is huge, so it was a good choice to share. The steak did not live up to our expectation, but I am sure it may for some. I would recommend you make a reservation here & enjoy the wonderful experience.

The restaurant's Michelin star is still from the last year when Vincenzo Guarino was a chef there. Before the 2019 season, the chef changed and we were one of the first ones to taste Stylianos Sakalis's tasting menu. The setting of the restaurant is nice. It was still too cold to sit outside, but the dining room was very festive and romantic. The dinner was OK and for a Michelin restaurant, "OK" simply isn't enough. There were many small things that were not quite OK. Home-made mayonnaise was featured in three of initial dishes, serving and de-serving was done without any left/right rule, etc. One mistake however was cardinal - the warm appetizer was a pasta with smoked butter, sage, lemon, and cheese. The pasta to the whole group was served practically cold (and that was not the intention). The waiters noted that something is not OK since they had to return the plates half-full. They have discretely asked about the reason, got the explanation, agreed with it, but did nothing (except a small discount at the end) to remedy the situation. We didn't taste a lot of imagination in the dinner (the dessert felt like "just give them chocolate and everything will be OK") and with one of four dishes (excluding amuse bouche) being returned, Il Pievano simply didn't justify neither the Michelin star not the 135 EUR/person price tag.Dear Mr. Matevsz,Thank you for choosing our Michelin Starred Restaurant Il Pievano and for your feedback. We regret to know that you were not satisfied with our performance. You were part of a group of 14 guests and for this reason we offered a testing menu.Unfortunately due to a problem with the kitchen door, that we repaired in a very short time, one of the courses was below the required temperature. Acknowledged that, we offered a generous discount and an even more sincere apology. Concerning the prices, a tasting menu of ⬠135,00 per person with wine peering included, in a Michelin Starred Restaurant is a fair price, in line with the other fine dining restaurants in this area.Do not hesitate to contact us for any further enquiries or information .Hoping to welcoming again at Castello di SpaltennaBest Regards,Alessandro ErcolaniGeneral Manager
