From ornate mansions to ocean views, this charming city - the largest in Maine - will enchant you. Saunter down the brick sidewalks and cobblestone streets of the revitalized Old Port District, where you can browse through bookstores, explore craft shops and eat to your heart's content. Visit the Portland Head Light, which dates back to 1791, and is the oldest lighthouse still in continuous use in the U.S. The great poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is the city's native son, and you can visit his childhood home, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House. With kids in hand, enjoy the highly interactive Children's Museum of Maine. And then go next door to the calmer Portland Museum of Art, a small, but eclectic museum with Impressionist works, Maine landscapes by Homer and Wyeth and other collections. Land or sea is an option here, so if you're tired of the street life, take one of the popular scenic cruises or whale watches, or hop on a ferry to the islands in Casco Bay. At the end of the day, and without kids in hand, unwind and rest your tired feet at one of the city's brewpubs.

A craft rum distillery offerings tastings, craft cocktails, and distillery tours.
I topped in with my wife today to check out their products. We ordered a flight of all 6 rums. We were both impressed with the variety of flavor in the Merrymeeting rum, very unique. My personal favorite was Nightwater Dark as I'm a dark fan. Spoke with one of the founders Dave, really nice guy who you can tell cares about his products and his customers. He was very friendly, informative and wanted to know what we thought about the products we tasted. Can't wait to come back and try some of their house cocktails and of course an order of popcorn.

Come by for a free tour and tasting! Portland Maine's first distillery since Prohibition, New England Distilling produces premium small batch spirits using local ingredients. 100% of our spirits are mashed, fermented, and distilled at our distillery. Our traditional pot still imparts unique flavors, and we think you will taste the difference.
I showed up just after they closed and was invited in given a grand tour. This distillery is located in a Brewing industrial park and is a welcome addition. We talked about all the spirits that they made there and had soooo many samples and all of this after hours. I can not recommend this distillery enough. I bought a bottle of rum on my way out and a bottle of rye from a local supermarket.

Small Batch Distillery in Portland, ME. Tasting rooms in both Portland and Freeport. Free spirit samples plus craft cocktails, food and Sunday Brunch. Cheers!
The new location is awesome. It's now a good restaurant as well as an excellent distillery. (Don't underestimate it - even the food is "craft"!) The employees seem to love their work and can whip up some really nice craft cocktails. We visited twice - once to do a tasting of their various spirits and have a couple of cocktails, and another time for dinner, more drinks and some live music. If we lived in the area we'd return often but sadly, this is an establishment we'll only be able to enjoy only on our annual visits to Maine. Of course we did buy some of their bottled products to enjoy at home.

Hardshore Distilling Company is a different kind of craft distillery. We are dedicated to creating spirits that enhance cocktails and bring distinction to any bar shelf that they sit upon. Our flagship product, Hardshore Original Gin, was created after years of tinkering and refining, to ensure the result was completely original. Come for a tasting and learn why we do things the hard way.
Had an excellent experience. Loved the Gin here. Very different than your traditional gin. The flavor profile is excellent. Highly recommend visiting this distillery when you visit Portland.

Nestled into a quiet space on historic Fore Street is Sweetgrass Old Port Tasting Room and Shop. Sip and savor a selection of over 15 wines and spirits then stroll the cobblestone streets and discover a Maine rich in Maritime commerce. Open year around.
We accidentally found this while walking around Portland. The salesgirl was quite knowledgeable and the tasting was $5 for 4 pour in which you get to keep the glass! Their wine was fruit based-a bit sweet for me-but their gin was delicious! I highly recommend the Cold River Gin and their Cranberry Gin- both with Tonic were quite refreshing.
