Noumea, on the island of Grand Terre, is the capital of the French territory of New Caledonia. The peaceful port city has a diverse population and colorful European architecture, reflecting its colonial history. Having served as the headquarters of the US Army during WWII, the tropical shrubbery of Ouen Toro Mount is now under the protection of abandoned Naval guns. The Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park offers visitors shaded walks amongst rare birds and views out over the lagoon.

I have Snorkeled and Scuba Dived all over the world for over 50 years. This is absolutely the best Snorkeling I have ever experienced!!! SCHOOLS of beautiful fish and healthy vibrant corals of MANY varieties!!! It changes ever 50' or so as you move around and change your location. Yes it is hard on your feet and requires a water taxi that you should prepay, and finding shade will be an issue, but totally worth it!!! Not for Beach combers. We are going on another cruise just to return here and experience this amazing place again. The number, variety, and beauty of the marine life here is unequaled by any place else I have ever been!!!
