Reviews on Central European food in Obergurgl, Austrian Alps, Austria. Heaven isn’t too far away from Obergurgl. Maybe because, at 6000 feet elevation, it’s the highest church parish in Austria. Or maybe it’s just the skiing. Take a guided tour with an expert mountaineer, explore the wintery dreamscape off-piste or get exclusive “early bird” slope access that ends with oysters and champagne. Or ditch the skis and go for a winter hike or thrilling toboggan ride. Ski huts and rest stops range from rustic to futuristic, all with panoramic views.

This is a charming mountain restaurant with simple but tasty mountain food. The room is small and when we were there it was packed as the weather was terrible. It is at the top of the Kirchenkarlift and hard to get to if you dislike T-bars, which I do.As a restaurant it is pretty good and was a welcome stop after the rigours of the lift...however the skiing was good

FINE DINING AT THE HOTEL EDELWEISS & GURGL Winter garden, fondue & à la carte Food is an important part of any holiday. At the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl guests can look forward to a culinary experience to remember. Our à la carte restaurant at 1,930 metres
We booked a fondue evening for 20 people at a cost of â¬42 per head (meat fondue). We started with pre-dinner drinks in the lovely bar and were served promptly by a very friendly member of staff.Unfortunately things went down hill from here. Once we were in the restaurant we were told that vegetarians had to sit together on a separate table on the other side of the room. Obviously we explained we were unhappy about this, but the staff said they could not serve us if we didn't do as they said.We then waited for some time for food to arrive and wine orders were taking up to 20 minutes to get to the table. The food came at different times and not everyone got the same selection. We had almost finished when they brought out a plate of fruit and cold meats; we were told this was for the cheese fondue - we'd been dipping potatoes into the cheese because there was nothing else! For a table of 6 people we were given a very small dish of chicken, beef, pork and sausages. I do not think that the combined weight of all the meat totalled more than 200g - this is just not enough for 6 skiers. In conclusion the service was slow, bordering on rude, and the meal was extremely poor value for money. I did complain to the staff and I asked our resort manager to complain; both complaints fell on deaf ears and we were left feeling very angry.Dear Anne-Marie H,we are very sad, to read this and we understand that the organizing tour operator in charge of your party didn't inform you exactly what was bespoken for this fondue. At each stage we clearly communicated that it is not possible to mix 3 different fondues on each table for the whole group, due to the limited space on tables. Also we took your reservation for 24 people and your group arrived with 29 people. 7 cheese, 7 Vegetarian, 10 meat Fondue. We made a seating plan to meet all wishes concerning meat fondue, vegetarian fondue and cheese fondue which was completely ignored by your group. Our manager decided to organize additional heaters because the clearly communicated seating plan was not accepted by members of your group. It is true that the additional heaters where cold at the beging of course. Members of your group who booked vegetarian food without prawns ordered additional prawns, which we booked on your bill. Also Fondue was not orderd for the whole group. Because of this we had to provide extra food and extra prawns many times. Of course we made a surcharge for that.We don't know how clearely you where informed by the organizers of your group about the booking of the fondue. Our Team and the Tour Operator Representatives did their best and informed your group at all stages of the reservation. Our team is we happy to inform guests what to book best and how it can work. We think there was some lack of information within your group and we are very sad that we get blamed for that. We would be very glad to welcome you again next year. Kind regards,Family Scheiber

Very nice and peacefull place. Austrian food specialiced on vegetarian winter-soups for example carrott-ginger soup but also serving the clasics like Wiener Schnitzel and Käsespätzle. Hidden from the crowded slopes at the rotmoos-valley.
We had lunch here. Turned up at the sign on the piste, called the number and within a few minutes a friendly chap on a skidoo appeared and pulled us to the hut - an exciting, fun ride. Those not so happy with being towed can sit on. The location and views are amazing and different to the norm. Food was very good and all reasonably priced. The ski/walk back wasn't as bad as feared. We really enjoyed the whole experience.

We stopped off twice here during a day of skiing in Hochgurgl. The restaurant is large with seating inside outside and upstairs. The views are simply spectacular. It is also a motorcycle museum.Portions are generous and the service was excellent.
