This is pub fare in a city with no restaurant culture. The service is very slow. The menu is very Hungarian which means heavy. The vegetables are rarely fresh leaving you with this standard mix of mushy things. The "foreign" offerings are typically Hungarian variations of something Hungarian. That creates a large gap between what the menu says and will arrive.

First, Nyiregyhaza doesn't have what I'd call a restaurant culture and so the quality of restaurants are generally fairly average. This restaurant falls above average. The food is always well done, presentation is very good but the portions are large! This is a period restaurant and aside from the full armor and a few other bits and bobs they went cheap on the decor which makes it a bit cheesy. I'd certainly return.

I lived in this city for ten years, and never had the opportunity to dine here until a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely the best Hungarian food in the city, even if it is a little ways outside of the center, and you need a car to get there. The buses may run, but it's simpler to take a taxi if you don't have your own car. I was lucky enough to have them make me something I ordered that wasn't even on the menu: Paprikas Krumpli. It was absolutely delicious and I haven't had that in a restaurant in decades, literally! Someone else ordered Paprikas Csirke, and while it was good, I found it to be rather sweet (which is unusual for that dish) and the galuska was over-cooked, rather burnt a little. However, the service was excellent - which is something to bear in mind considering there is a consistent lack of customer service in the whole of Hungary -the desserts were delicious and the atmosphere was very nice and traditionally Hungarian! I would highly recommend this place, not just to the tourist visiting this city but also to any locals who've never had the opportunity to visit the restaurant. Absolutely outstanding!

Tried some of their Hungarian dishes - it was so good! Thumbs up for Turkey cordon blue. Don't know the Hungarian name for other dishes but Ask for recommendations from waiter / waitres. Staffs are friendly. Price is reasonable. There is a lake and park nearby.

We took burgers with chips and it was perfect. On the pics it seems small, but you get two of them with a huge bowl of chips. I love, when the buns are small and the meat is almost larger than that - we got exactly this. And the taste... it was absolutely perfect.I also took a cheese soup, which was also great. Recommend to try it if you like the american style food.
