Things to do in Ararat
Wonderful to discover this cafe in the Alexandra Gardens. Relax under the shady trees to enjoy your coffee etc then stroll around these lovely gardens near the main highway through town. Highly recommend breaking your journey here. Big playground for the kids too. Toilets at the cafe site.

Although this Cafe is in the centre of town being Barkly St Ararat we often stop off here on way through to Melbourne from Nhill. There is a bypass you can take and of course miss out on the main centre of town where the coffee and lunch shops are. Great Cafe, wonderful owners who have been up in Ararat for over 5 years and always welcome you into their Cafe. Try the eggs benedict which is superb and the coffee is great but ask for a hot hot hot cup and strong or you may get a cup of milk. We have got to know the owners and make this Cafe to what it is now. Opposite the Post Office and there is usually plenty of parking although meter charged. Ararat is on the way through to the Grampians and a good 'stop off' to replenish your caravan or whatever. Enjoy!
Foragers has a delicious array of hot and cold food with seating inside and out. We had our drinks outside where there was plenty of seating and a lovely outlook next to the arts precinct while the Jailhouse Rock Festival was going. The staff were very friendly. There is no cover outside so in winter you would need to sit indoors which could be a bit noisy.

We called in here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We chose the vegetarian, and parmigiana focaccias and were delighted with our choices. Sit outside under the grapevines and enjoy the coffee and watch life go by. The coffee was tasty, and there was a wide variety of treats to go with the coffee if you want sweets.Thankyou for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us and appreciate your kind words :)

Salingers Cafe, established in 1861 in the wine and food villiage of the Grampians, Great Western. Salingers Cafe is a play between the historic building and modern dining. The exposed brick walls and polished wooden floors gives the cafe a warm ambiance,
We stayed in Great Western overnight to see where my mum grew up. We had breakfast at Salingers and it was delicious. I had the chilli scrambled eggs which were served with a very generous dide of smoked salmon. My husband had the bacon and eggs. The coffee was good and my pot of tea was stong and hot. Just how I like it! Judging from the steady stream of customers this is a popular spot to stop on the way through town.Thank you for making the journey back to Great Western. As you would have seen, the town is very rich in history. Thank you also for taking the time to leave a review. We hope to see you again in Great Western soon.
