Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska, was the home of the J. Sterling and Caroline Morton family. The four-room house built in 1855 was renovated over the years into a Victorian-style mansion. The 52-room mansion includes many Morton family Victorian and Empire-era furnishings. Guests may stroll the gardens and trails to view towering trees, many of which were planted by the Morton family. Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and Arboretum encompasses 72 acres of wooded area and gardens, with over 260 species of trees and shrubs.
This spacious, beautiful historical home can be accessed via self-guided tour, and 90% of the furnishings are original to the Morton family. There are great examples of Victorian and Arts and Crafts decor/furniture, as well as original Art Nouveau wallpaper. Well worth the price of admission.

We accidentally came in on free appetizers with our wine tasting. The tastes were delicious, hospitality was friendly and generous. There was even a VERY crabby customer who was handled with grace and she ended up happy. That's not easy in dealing with the public.

Walk in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark and Seaman the dog on our 79-acre property. Step aboard an authentic full sized 55-foot replica of the Keelboat used by the explorers over 200 years ago. Relive the adventure by exploring our interactive exhibits: burrow with the Prairie Dogs, run with the American Bison, be surprised by our ferocious Grizzly Bear. Listen to the calls of every bird that was documented along the expedition. Pull the oars on the pirogue. Avoid the snags as you race down the Missouri River with our newest exhibit. Go into the 48 foot in diameter Plains Indian Earth Lodge. Follow our trails to the Missouri River Overlook and the Birding Amphitheater. Bring a snack lunch to enjoy at our outdoor picnic area!
This is a hidden gem! If you have any interest at all in Lewis and Clark's travels, you should see this. We spent about two hours here. There are three floors of exhibits and some trails outside, including one to an overlook of the Missouri River. Very nice 30-minute documentary film as well. Highly recommended.

This was an interesting museum to visit. It is a trip back in time. We had a guided tour of the place and then were free to look around and check out the various video kiosks that further explained the windmills.

We stayed on the overflow parking lot as a Harvest Host visitor. Relatively quiet and pleasant for the night. We would stay here again. My wife fell in love with the grounds, especially the well organized orchards on the hills next to the parking lot. In the morning we had the DELICIOUS apple doughnuts and cider from the sales store. We added coffee and had the most pleasant morning meal. There was an amazing assortment of specialty butters, flavored sugars, jams, preserves, syrups, and sauces available. Unfortunately, we have limited storage area and could not buy the store out of their products (they are that good). There is a picnic area, playground and lots to do. There is a Learning Center, affiliated with the University of Nebraska. Clean, well maintained, and conspicuously well planned grounds show off native grasses, flowering plants and fruits plants. Botanists will have a grand time with this aspect of a visit. In a quick (and probably incomplete) summary: Good place for a Harvest Host Visit. Intellectually stimulating plantings on the grounds. A safe playground for younger visitors. Gift Shop with tempting teasing tasty treats. Beautiful orchards on the adjacent hillsides Oh-I forgot to mention the pies and the wine tasting station-go see for yourself!
