Marsaxlokk (Maltese pronunciation: [marsaʃˈlɔk]) is a traditional fishing village in the South Eastern Region of Malta, with a population of 3,534 as of March 2014. The village’s name comes from marsa, which means "port" and xlokk, which is the local name for south east. The word is related to the name for the dry sirocco wind that blows from the Sahara, comparable to the equivalent Catalan word, "xaloc". The village is known for the Marsaxlokk Market, a large market which takes place around the whole village on Sundays and tourist market all days during the week. The inhabitants of the village are called the Xlukkajri and are historically fishermen.

Our highlight in Malta, a real hidden gem, great scenery , diving off rocks into crystal clear waters, you could spend hours here soaking up the activity. Not a pool at all, just a special place

Xrobb L-Ghagin Nature Park was opened on 11April 2011. The site was previously used as the Deutschewelle Radio Station during the cold war era. Today the non governmental organization Nature Trust (Malta) has restored the site into a nature area and the existing building into a visitors centre . The Centre runs on clean energy. The Park is situated on the South East of Malta with spectacular views.
Spectacular sea views and a great walk. Never busy with people. Getting there is not the easiest but certainly worth the bumps in the road.

Some of the negative comments on the power station makes out as if it dominates this little villages skyline which certainly isn't the case! No different to some fishing villages in the UK or around the world.... Very pretty with lots of Luzzu's and their owners lovingly working on them. Nice little market, quite touristy but there are some lovely Maltese based products if you look hard enough at reasonable prices. Lovely walk along the prom. We spent the whole morning here taking in the sites of this fishing bay along with a lunch at Roots before moving onto St Peters Pool.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompei, is at the very heart of all the life in Marsaxlokk. It is the home and Parish Church of a very dynamic community that welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year. A very spiritual destination that turns every tourist and visitor into a pilgrim.
When we visited the Marsaxlokk parish church which is dedicated to Our Lady of Pompei to attend mass and afterwards went to the open-air market which lies in the vicinity. Small church with very nice artifacts

What an excellent day out. Travelled on the bus from Valletta, cost 3 euro on a Sunday and the bus runs every 30 minutes. You can download the bus app if you don't have a time table. The market closes at 14.00 Loads of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Don't be surprised by all the fish on the menu.
